After Almost a Year and a Half.....We Have an Update!

Had to do a double take when I saw the new version number. I’ll let y’all test it out for a few weeks before I upgrade.

And while I’m here I’ll post something “good” about PIA instead of the typical complaint. Just yesterday I was simultaneously downloading at 500 Mbps while uploading at 200 Mbps using WireGuard. Those are not peak numbers but sustained numbers for ten minutes or so until the distros finished downloading. Canadian servers in case you wondered.

Maxed out 90/10 over PIA using wireguard on OPNSense. It’s beautiful.

For the past two years while using PIA vpn, i always achieved 90% of my download speed. I live in US and use US servers that are close to me.

Still entry IP equal to exit IP.

Still no standard multi-hop.

Still only 3 Shadowsocks location in EU.

Still no dedicated IP (only when they identify you with non-crypto payment).

Still no custom ports (little choice with OpenVPN, no choice with WG).

I could continue if I’m too lazy…

The Israeli servers are very fast too, I was maxing out my 300 Mbps home connexion just yesterday.

Why would they roll a release that was not beta tested?

Same. I’m not jumping on that grenade because for me the older version is stable.

When are they gonna go to OVPN 2.6 ???

I only lose like 5-10 Mbps of my download speed when using PIA but my upload can lose as much as 40+ Mbps for no reason

Yeah they used to market the entry and exit IP’s being different as being “slightly better” but then changed their tune about 4 years ago.
You do get a different DNS ip though when you do an ip check, and i dont know if that’s good or bad.

I’m sure they beta tested it but from what I’ve seen over the years there is typically a minor release that comes shortly after their major releases. In my older years I’ve become more cautious when updating. I figure I’ll wait a bit and see if any issues pop up once the update is out in the wild before I jump in.

I am in the same boat with you on this as well… I wanna wait a bit, keep an ear open to the forums in here and then consider updating PIA…
