Year-long sub to Mullvad almost up

I don’t think proton does port forwarding either which was the only reason I left Mullvad.

Thanks, I’ll take a closer look at AirVPN.

Do NOT try PIA. Endless captchas. On 90% of their servers, google is completely captcha blocked. Their IP’s are heavily abused, and are blocked on more sites than mullvad when i used them. I still have over a year left with PIA, but I don’t use them because of how horrible it is.

They’ve been challenged in court and didn’t hand over anything, google it. They’re battle tested.

You are right, I never get captchas, only with Google. That is another reason why I don´t use them.

4 or 5 months ago I had no problem with logging in here from any Mullvad server. Seems to be something that began recently.

Is OP saying they can’t login to reddit or they have to login to reddit?

Lots of websites seem to give a good word on Nord, many make it their number one selection. But I’m pretty certain many of them have a financial arrangement with Nord to do so. Because of that, not really the best resource for making a decision. The VPN’s, and all their payoffs to “reviewing websites” really make it tough to sort things out.

Proton does port forwarding. I just got it for that reason. Working better than mullvad for seeding

Just use duckduc, the captchas don’t bother me and apparently they’re working on a solution for google rolling out soon.

I use Pia cos it has by far the best split tunnel in the business. Mullvad don’t even offer split tunnel on macOS lol

Will check that out, thanks for the info.

Try connecting to the UK server on Mullvad.

no issues here, you tried a different device and seeing if you have the same issue?

> like the gui suddenly turning to all white a few times a day – going on for months

That sounds like a graphics driver issue or windows display server issue

What I’m saying is this… If I go to reddit.com while on any number of Mullvad servers I’m met with a mostly white screen with big letters that says something like 'WHOA PARDNER!" and won’t let you proceed. At the bottom of that message it provides a login link which you can then try as an alternative. However, that wouldn’t accept my password, saying pass and user name didn’t match! I use Roboform to enter user name/passwords, so I know the password and user name were correct. I disconnect from Mullvad, try again, and Roboform logs me in with the very same user name/password. So long story short, Reddit appears to be blocking you if you attempt to get on the site while on some (but apparently not all) Mullvad servers.

Hope that’s clear now.

I signed up for proton and trialed it. At least at that time the port would change frequently - I couldn’t have a permanent server and port selected. It might work if you are running a single computer but for my docker setup it wasn’t working because I would have to change the port on the docker assignment but then when I restarted it would change again.

Duckduckgo provides worse search results even though it’s from google. Not to mention its noticeably slower.

Out of interest, where do you get the recommendations for Pia? I don’t see that much, i feel like it’s being neglected recently as they don’t seem to market themselves well anymore…

Thanks will give it a try.

Thanks for your response! I only use Mullvad on my Windows desktop and a mobile phone. That problem with the GUI only happens on the desktop. However, I’ve had 2 other people here on Reddit tell me they were experiencing the same thing. I also contacted support at Mullvad about it, and though they weren’t exactly clear, it appeared they were aware of the problem and suggested I install a beta of the app (which didn’t help). It was also the same guy that was telling me to turn off my firewall which was a suggestion that still kind of blows my mind. I won’t mention the support guy’s name here but each and every time I’ve had this one particular guy get back to me via email he’s telling me to turn off my firewall! GEEZ!!!

I agree with you, it does seem to be some change Mullvad made in the app about 4 or so months ago that seems to disagree with my Nvidia graphics driver. It’s not a huge deal, but it is annoying since you never quite know if it’s purely a graphics issue, or if when ithe GUI turns to all white if the VPN is cutting out as well. That’s where its pretty annoying, the concern that you may be getting exposed. BTW, not the first time I’ve seen them take months to remedy some bug in their software. Another one awhile back, where the app repeatedly kept writing small purposeless files in my Program Files folder, took them around 6 months to correct.

Yeah I get that as well but when I click on the login link it works:

That’s not good if you’re getting further blocked :\
