It seems like Youtube is clamping down on users who have gotten Youtube Premium via a VPN for cheap

This is interesting. I found this thread 4mo later because I’m having nearly the same issue, but it’s presented itself differently. Just commenting for others’ reference.
I signed up through the Philippines and my email said, “YouTube Premium memberships based in Philippines require a form of payment issued in Philippines.”
Dunno if others were paraphrasing but I didn’t see language of this nature word.

It seems that they are on the way to do the purge, for creating new account by this trick, cannot pass through payment anymore. For old account currently in subscription, I am still holding my breath to see when my name to be called. Hopefully they will do mercy.

Does anyone know if paying for the whole year means you get to keep it up until the membership lapses, even if they find out the country is incorrect before the membership ends?

This may not be a solution for everyone, depending on your specific use case scenario, but if you’re trying to get away from the ads, etc. try installing Smarttube. I did and won’t even bother paying the subscription for YouTube premium.

It really should get bundled into a Google 1 subscription.

My subscription from Turkey is still working, just top it up with Turkish lira gift cards.

My Ukraine account got the axe yesterday. I was able to renew through Vietnam but someone in another thread said their Vietnam account died also so I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time now.

I use an ad blocker on my computer, I mainly wanted this for YouTube on our TV. My kids watch a lot of shorts and they were getting weird ads sometimes. Is there a decent as blocker for Fire TV that anyone knows of?

Vietnam worked for me

This is only in countries where the billing details can be mapped to the credit card in a way that VISA \ Google Pay can report and see it. Some countries don’t do that.

I using turkey didn’t get canceled yet maybe it works :man_shrugging:t2:

bro thank you soo much. I was in the same boat as you as I used India for a year before switching to monthly turkey subscription for the next year and it cancelled on me last Wednesday for the same reason. I spent 2 weeks trying Pakistan, South Africa, Ukraine, India, Turkey, Argentina and Colombia all failing and after a week of using regular YT, you saved me with Poland. I hope it can last a while before they find out

Taiwan works…I just did it to renew mine

I’ve had a family plan for the past two years. With no family members. I only used a VPN to set up my Indian YouTube account, but for some reason, only the family plan’s payment processed. I tried to get individual but it would not work. I looked up an Indian address on Google Maps and found Indian first & last name.
As a payment method I had no choice but to use my American credit card. The family plan was $2.25, but they recently sent me an email informing me that starting in September, the price will increase to $3.56. In addition, they charge a foreign fee. Few weeks ago some one used my credit card and purchased stuff on Amazon so I had to replace the card. I was worried sick when trying to update the payment method. I would keep getting messages that I can’t use this card and have to use another. I had no choice but to try my bank card and only then I was successful in making a payment.

I’ve been debating whether to get an individual year plan for $18 but first I would have to cancel my family plan, I’m afraid that something could go horribly wrong. I was totally ok with paying $27 a year but $42 is a little too much for me at the moment. Does anyone else who have Indian Accounts in US were able to switch from family to individual? I wish you could just switch without having to cancel.

The real winner is Newpipe, which is free and can offer the same exact features as youtube premium.

Got spots for YT premium. Just sent 3 a month. Dm for spot if interested

I do not understand YouTube, or rather I do not get its greed and stubbornness.

Hear me out. $5 YT that only has one feature, no ads. I could nto care less for anything they want to shove in their subscription, I do not want to pay for somethign I do not use.

It is like paying for 200 channels in the old times for TV while using only 2.

Seriously, why do they avoid this route so much. This is pure cash. I know that millions of people still have not figured out ad blockers. A lot more people would pay if it is purely for no ads.

Does anyone know what the situation is with other devices? So assuming I have booked a premium account via another country, would I always have to activate vpn in that country on my smartphone before opening the YouTube app? And what about the app on the Smart TV? I don’t have a VPN here, so I’m afraid that Google will quickly notice if I access it more frequently from my home country.

well obviously it would die out everyone talking about there methods online and just about everywhere else on google you think they wouldnt catch on ? honestly the fact they started to crack down and have made this known to the public means if its not over now it will be soon as they get the algorithim right but right now they are just looking for people and behaviors that are similar and once they get that data they will feed to there automated system.

The fact a vpn is needed make sit so much easier to track whos doing this…all they gotta do is filter whos using the same ip addresses from different locations which is a clear sign of vpn usage …from there they just see what content your watching…if your watching american stuff obviously your not from india .

Now they’re saying my payment is not tied to that country (VISA). Is Revolut still working for people?

Ya I just got booted from mine. Been paying for YouTube in Hungary for months

Poland worked for me. It’s about half the us cost. I tried the iTunes hack bit Apple won’t let me create an Apple ID in turkey
