Nope.
Google baned pixel vpn in mainland china. In fact it works fine if you have an IP address which meets google’s requirements.
For example, you can using a US/JP sim to enable pixel vpn, then switch to chinese sim card, the vpn connection still there.
After all the Google VPN isn’t meant to get around censorship blocks. It’s more of a standard encrypt, send data through Google like you said to keep average users secure. Given China has a lot of blocks on VPN unless your VPN actively serves China and makes an effort to keep rotating IP addresses and stuff to keep options open for China, it’s likely a lot of average VPNs will just fail.
They pretty aggressively block. It’s a regular cat and mouse game as the other poster said. They block IPs routinely, use DPI to sniff out VPNs, etc. If your VPN doesn’t actively try to get around China blocking it will likely not work.
It’s mostly a cat and mouse game, from my experience. Granted I only go a couple times a year, but even then I sometimes need to change the server I’m connected to in China during my trip (personally use Astrill there as the Google VPN doesn’t really work that well).
Ha ha, you can see the story of how to use flairs down the thread and it’s actually quite wholesome
3 dots then user flair
Could you please explain SSL stripping? My guess would be terminating the SSL at the gateway and serving you only http but I’ve not heard of this being used before…
Noting that on Verizon my speed is massively higher with it on than without. I get throttled by Verizon and the Google VPN bypasses it somehow
How do you do that? With tasker?
I wonder if it’ll make it to 6a eventually… perhaps with the rumoured upcoming major kernel uprev?? (ie. there could be technical ipsec/vpn/etc kernel related reasons for it not being enabled on 6)
Sure thing, find Google VPN in the pull down quick menu, long press the icon, then there should be an option to “resume” VPN…also a setting labeled pause VPN on selected networks…make sure that your mobile network isn’t listed as a paused network . If it is delete it from that list.
Okay, I was just saying for people that might read that that has nothing to do with your Google subscription anymore. It just comes with the Pixel. But yeah, that’s Google. Eighty percent of their features aren’t available outside the US, so I feel bad for you guys.
Try changing the system language to “English (US)”. I live in Europe and have access to VPN
Pretty sure it ain’t working. Sigh. Anyone recommend a good Vpn for an android phone - it’s a Google pixel 7. Do not laugh.
Why do Google make it so bloody hard to use their products?
I can create an access point (basically like a hotspot) and name it Starbucks_Free_Wifi. You connect to it thinking it’s the real Starbucks WiFi. You then try to browse to example.com. I now get your DNS request which is asking “what is the IP for example.com?” Instead of sending you the real one, I send you the IP for my server which just hosts a copy of example.com and only uses HTTP. Now I establish an HTTPS connection with the real example.com. That server doesn’t know I’m actually in between it and you. Now I just serve the content of the HTTPS site back to you, but only using HTTP, so I can see the contents of what you are sending, thinking it’s the “real” site and that you’re connected using HTTPS
It’s not false? You work in cybersecurity and have never heard of a MITM attack? I can literally share a lab with you if you want to demonstrate yourself.
I am in India currently. It says not supported in your location. Will try once I am back to US. Thanks for the help.
Hmm, I presume the browser stops you if you’re visiting HTTPS and downgraded to HTTP.
I can only see mobile data there! Can’t see WiFi networks at all
