Avoid having to remember to cancel free trial services by using prepaid gift cards

This is fantastic! Thank you.

This is great, thank you!

I had my brother do this for Xbox gamepass. No need to worry about auto payments.

Or use burner debit cards from the Privacy app

Some things are hard to cancel like my WebRoot, I selected cancellation and the thing still went through, then Sirius Radio - they chatted with me for 1/2 hour before only reducing the cost and finally I gave in (I hate regular radio anyways). I recently used a card for a subscription and card money went back actually so yes it cancels the service. I would recommend this since as you can see I’m stuck with the other 2 subscriptions.

There’s privacy.com for that. Can issue virtual cards with pre-defined amount they can charge. Can configure per-month allowance on them. Can cancel them anytime you want. Prepaid cards require too much effort, they expire, they start leaking balance after X months. Better cash them on amazon and forget about them.

That’s pretty smart.

Since when does commiting fraud become a life hack?

Alternatively, credit cards like Citi let you generate virtual credit card numbers and set a limit as low as $1 or immediate cancel them after use. I’ve used that feature to achieve the same outcome.

If you’re in Europe just use Revolut. You can create as many temp debit cards as you need in the app.

I seen a TikTok once where the person said buy yourself gift cards in case of emergencies. Like if you have a spare $20 and are at the gas station, by one and just keep it in your car for when you’re low on funds.

I use virtual debit cards with low limits

I’ve used privacy.com for some years now. You can set how much can be charged a month, per transaction or if it’s a one and done. Turn the card off and on with a click. I love it. Transactions show up on my bank statement as privacy.com.

Better yet, use a virtual credit card with a $1.00 limit. So far I’ve only found them available from Citibank. Used it literally hundreds of times.

This is what I do always especially on yearly ones like Norton or something where they increase the price a bunch after the trial year

Definitely the smartest option. However my method doesn’t even require the cancelation process.

Really? Hmm I guess it depends on the service. I was able to do this just last week with a streaming service.

Yeah the only way this works is if you get a prepaid card you register with your name and address online.

My Privacy account was recently hacked and they emptied my bank account! Privacy doesn’t really care and isn’t helping. My bank finally returned my money last week “provisionally until the investigation is complete”. I will no longer ever recommend Privacy.com to anyone!

Capital One also has virtual cards that can lock automatically with a given date.
