Would you recommend Private Internet Access VPN?

I’ve been using Surfshark for the last 3 years but over the last few months the quality and performance have been declining. Slow loading, not connecting, random disconnections, bypasser not working - I’m over it and I want to get a new VPN. I’ve been looking at PIA and I just wondered what everyone’s thought about it are. Or recommendations for something else?

Mullvad or AirVPN. Both have good port forwarding.

I’ve used both PIA and Surfshark. I use AirVPN now.

No.

I would. I’ve been using PIA for years, I’m paid up through 2024. It works very well. They just passed a new audit.

PIA is fast as fuck. Try it out.

Been on PIA for many years. If i were starting today would probably go mullvad.

PIA isn’t bad but they aren’t great either. Port forwarding changes every x times you reset. So you have to keep checking (this is in qbit and different from router forwarding). Split tunnel is also shown to be unreliable.

But they do updates often, are plenty fast on most servers, seem to be good on privacy and have apps on everything.

Mullvad or you will get banished

Does anyone know how to use mullvad on windows server?

remote desktop disconnect whenever i start mullvad , i also enabled “Local network sharing” option on windows server mullvad app but no luck :frowning:

If you are looking for a new VPN, there’re more trustworthy companies imo. To me Surfshark and PIA are in the same category.

AirVPN

Thanks, I’ll check it out. Port forwarding isn’t really important to me. My ISP has the router locked down (due to VoIP) and there is no user access to set port forwarding. I wouldn’t have a clue if it’s possible any other way.

Thanks, I just dove in and paid for a one-year subscription today and, with a 30-day money back guarantee I’ve got nothing to lose. Like it better than Surfshark already. For one thing, the split tunneling works and it didn’t for me with Surfshark on my Windows 10 laptop - don’t think it ever did.

Yes, I’m trying it out now. I had to get something just to get rid of Surfshark cos it’s causing me no end of problems. I’ll see how PIA goes for the next few weeks while I’m still in the 30-day refund period. Pretty happy with it so far. Speed is good and the split tunneling works! Surfshark’s won’t work for me on my laptop.

Thanks, I’m checking it out and it’s definitely better than Surfshark. Forgive my ignorance, but I’m not sure what you mean about the port forwarding changing.

Extremely disappointed to discover you’re right. I thought it was working because I set my torrent app to ‘only vpn’, checked my location in my browser which showed my actual location and IP, as it should. Today I thought I’d double check just to be sure so I also set my browser to ‘only vpn’, checked my location again - it still showed my actual location and IP! Even after restarting PIA and my browser. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr not happy!

Sorry but that makes no sense to me.

n on windows server mullvad app but no luck :frowning:

If you are ok with just OpenVPN and don’t need/want to use Wireguard you could use the Mullvad config with the OpenVPN software and try if that works for you.

If you are torrenting you would set the forwarded port in the torrent client.

Mullvad is a bit less techie than AirVPN. Easier to set up, I believe.

Oh, Happy Cake Day. :shortcake:

Don’t use Air. Love their privacy outlook, but the performance is lackluster. They simply don’t have enough high bandwidth servers, imo. And yes, I have tried them out recently.

Be sure to use Wireguard, not OpenVPN, and bind wgpia0 network interface to your torrent client.

That’s my main reason. The split tunneling and reverse split tunneling just work…flawlessly. I never got it working with Mullvad or Surfshark, and I don’t have time to dick around with it.
