So, im running a Node for about a year now, and yes, i was stupid enough to enable the public / VPN Option for a period of time. This morning police officers knocked on my door an told me, that there were 15 Cases of distribution of Child Porn from my IP. They already suspected i was running Mystnodes because thats a huge thing right now according to the officer. They alsom
told me i was lucky, because the first dozen or so cases included raids and seizures before a pattern was discovered.
To my luck, im not a suspect but merely a witness. I got told to stop the Node and be more careful, then they went on their way.
Still fucking shaking right now, almost got charged with CP distro jfc.
I know i was stupid as fuck, i just wanna warn yall because ive seen quite a few comments here beeing not to worried about running vpn / public.
We are very sorry to hear that this has happened to you, It’s hard to imagine how scary and frustrating it is to be in this situation. And in general, this whole situation is really really horrible.
We want to ensure that we are taking every step possible to prevent even the slightest chance of this situation ever repeating in the future.
We would like to assure you that we are not leaving you on your own. If there is any way whatsoever how we could help you out in proving that it wasn’t you who performed these vile acts, we are, without any doubt or hesitation, willing to do that. We had to tackle a similar, albeit, less disturbing case a while ago, and we provided all the necessary information to prove that the person running the node was not the culprit:
For the past several months, we have been communicating with several organizations whose primary goal is to prevent child exploitation in various countries. With these talks in progress, we are also working on solutions that would make it impossible for our Node network to be used for these absolutely disgusting purposes on a technical level.
Thank you for sharing this situation with our community and with us – it helps us in our pursuit to make the Nodes network immune to cases like these.
At home i had at the time a fiber optic line of 1 gbit.
After 3 months from the start of the mysterium netwerk,
i had huge loads of data… from strange ip’s.
I was getting warnings from my isp because of the data en spamming…
The earnings where low so i stopped the mysterium node.
Brooooo… I just switched mine off…thats so messed up!!! Thanks for the headsup! Im having such painfully low transfers so with public off it is now gonna get worse
There was a similar comment on Discord few months ago in Romania that had a similar case but he never knew if that was Mysterium or any other Sharing Net Apps.
Did you provide documents to the mods so they can verify it and so you can be cleared of any " trust me bro " ?
i just want to say holy shit i am lucky
i disabled my myst node a month or 2 ago to do nerdy shit but i never thought the police show up to my door ever and they havent i disabled it because i am a CHILD!!! and cant exchange it that CP is just messed up
calling either my local police station or the AFP (Australian Federal Police) to see if shit has been passed around on my node and may ask to completely remove myst from showing up on australian internet thats fucked up
They only left the Business card of the Detective that works the case with a handwritten case number on it. Not quite sure if that would prove anything?
Germany. Not really comfortable with sharing my exact Location. Only got a Business card of the investigator with a case number. It says hes working in the cybercrime unit. Got no other documents because they treat me as witness in the case and we only talked for like 20 minutes or so. They wanted to make sure i knew what was happening and turn off mystnode. Im Not sure why there arent any other posts or news yet, since they said there are quite a few cases atm, whatever that means. He first asked if i have an explanation and when i didnt have an answer he asked specifically if i run mystnode.
Honestly thinking about calling him tommorow and asking a few questions.
