WireGuard VPN - currently abroad and they seem to block WireGuard, what are my options as I need to connect back to my network?

As title, currently use WireGuard on my pfsense router and usually works fine, however I’m abroad currently and they seem to be blocking it, I can connect to a general vpn service (l2tp) and that works fine but I need to connect back to my network via WireGuard? Any way I can I achieve this without having access to my network to set up another vpn type? Only have access to an IOS device currently.

I’d suggest running your wireguard server on a different port that you’re not otherwise using. Maybe 21, 22, 23, 53, 80, 443, etc. Those might be otherwise allowed through. The firewall that’s blocking you might accidentally allow it through on one of these low ports, thinking it was a different protocol.

I’ve heard that if you call random people and tell them you are from Microsoft, they’l give you TeamViewer access…

Run Wireguard on UDP port 1701? It’s likely they’re blocking the higher port it defaults to.

Surprising how often this has been coming up lately. If you travel a lot I’d recommend having a free Connectwise account set up to connect a machine at home or using a CloudFlare tunnel once you get back.

In the short run spinning up a VPS to gain access to your router via WireGuard should work.

forget all VPNs, advanced tech countries easily block all of them. There is only 1 method left to use. HTML5 access for example using apache guacamole. This works from Russia too.

Currently on 51420 so it may be because it’s a higher port.

Good idea, was hoping for something simpler but I’ll use this as a fall back

Thanks, I’ve heard good stuff about cloudflare tunnel so will check it out.
