In general, subtitles won’t match the dubs because they have different people do translations for them, so this probably doesn’t really exist.

I might get it sometime then. If I had an active Netflix subscription from the U.S., and I accessed it from Japan (with or without a VPN), would that work? Or is there a separate Netflix Japan subscription service?

I have heard that. DVDs can be a good source of subs in a pinch.

Netflix is the same subscription anywhere in the world, what you can access is dependent on where you are (or where Netflix thinks you are if using a vpn).

But, as a warning, if you’re watching a English show dubbed into Japanese the Japanese subtitles won’t match the audio, as they use different transcripts.

Thanks for the heads up. I’m a little surprised how hard it is to find Japanese subtitles for Japanese dubbed English shows. It does make sense, though. If I really need subs, I guess I can always buy physical DVDs that contain the subs.
