question is in title
There’s no such thing as you end up being the product and they use your information. Some VPNs like Proton and Windscribe have free options with limited data per month.
ProtonVPN:
- Has no data or speed limits
- Has no advertisements
- Does not log your online activity
- Is protected by Swiss privacy laws
We believe privacy and security are fundamental human rights, so we also provide a free version of ProtonVPN to the public. Unlike other free VPNs, there are no catches. We don’t serve ads or secretly sell your browsing history. ProtonVPN Free is subsidized by ProtonVPN paid users.
Gathering info at sign up is the product. Nice try though.
Free VPNs should be totally avoided.
They will either have a crap infrastructure and be unreliable, or they will bombard you with ads, or worse malware.
There are many inexpensive VPNs that will provide a quality, no ads service.
yes totally free with paid tier too
Lmfao find a good free one that don’t ask for anything then.
Protonvpn is provided by protomail.
Look them up before you blanket criticise!
As I said, there’s no such thing. The customer is the product.
I still would not trust them. They have to recoup costs somehow.
When you sign up all it asks for is an email address and a username/password.
You only hand over card/payment details when you want to go for the paid for services.
I don’t see an issue with that! What does it ask you?
Yes by providing paid for services. It’s most obvious you like to give blanket generalised responses without actually checking first so I’ll do you a small favor:
Protonmail has one direct competitor Tutanota who also provide a great encrypted alternative but ProtonMail are in the process of providing encrypted versions of Google calendar, drive, etc. They also offer up beta access to users so we can help them iron out any bugs etc.
Many journalists use protonmail due to their no logging and transparent policies.
The VPN service offered by them have the best free selection on offer and the paid for versions are direct competitors to other paid for VPN providers.
ProtonVPN Free:
- Has no data or speed limits
- Has no advertisements
- Does not log your online activity
- Is protected by Swiss privacy laws

If after that you still stick by your blanket lack of trust feel free to put your head right back in the sand.
If you’re just expecting to get config details for a VPN right from the get go with no username/password and email you will be look for something that does not exist.
An email address is personal info. Ever hear of spam? It’s the result of giving personal info away, namely your email address.
The general principle of not trusting free offerings e.g. Hulu is sound.
I have never heard of this before so unless others reply supporting your claims, I remain sceptical.
It is up to OP to decide if he believes you.
Bye Bye.
Better remove your post for this then:
Yes It is obvious you’ve never heard of them and are also reluctant to look for yourself!
Why, none of my personal info is there.
No - just using common sense. I doubt many have heard of them anyway.
Because you’re encouraging people to do what you say is bad …Hypocrisy!
