What do I need to know if I’m considering a Purple as a travel router?

You can’t do that using WireGaurd on your mobile?

That’s why I bought mine, to use with my Apple TV… But the last time I traveled without it, and I couldn’t see a good reason to use the travel router versus the VPN, which is always on my phone anyway.

I understand. I have six kids…each with one or more devices. I am the guy who pushed for more WireGaurd slots (12 wasn’t enough).

I set every device up with a perm VPN. The only thing I couldn’t do that for is my travel ATV and that was the device I bought my Beryl for.

Again, it works, but it’s a real PITA to get past hotel wifi. And it’s 100% a non-starter to ask my wife to do it.

Ah that could be. My experience is more with US hotels. Good to know.

The other advantage to each having its own profile is your not limiting yourself to one hotel throttled connection.

Maybe leave the travel router for the kids and the profiles for the adults.

Sure. I could. But then I’d have to set it up on my iPad, my phone, my laptop, my watch….

This is convenient and easy.

I guess that’s where I’m confused… Shouldn’t it be set up on all those devices already? How do you stay behind your firewall when out and about?

Why would you want to stay behind your firewall when out and about? How do you know you won’t have different needs when traveling? Having the flexibility to adjust your firewall when traveling is a better idea. Also, hotel wi-fi signals can be bad, connecting with a purple or similar box can get you a more stable Wi-Fi.
