What are the tools people use to to lower the ping?

Living literally across the world from japan, with a time difference of 12 hours, my ping is an amazing 343ms. That with a good optical fiber wired internet.

So I started looking into a solution to this. I’ve seen people going from renting a server located in Japan to simple VPNs. But during my research, I’ve also seen warnings from some users saying that Cygames doesn’t like browser extensions messing with the game, and that include some VPN solutions, so I’m also a bit insecure about trying the first solution I find.

The “renting a server in japan” solution is way too cumbersome for my playstyle, so that would be out of the question, and I use my PC for multitasking, so changing connection settings (like setting a VPN) OS-wide would be impractical. So basically what I need is a solution that only affect my connection in the browser (Chrome, which I only have installed because of GBF)

One of the most promising solutions I’ve found is Mudfish, but I’ve never used it before. Does someone here use it? Are there any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Try Mudfish vpn. Just download their Chrome extension and connect to Japan and see if it helps. They have sort of a free trial by giving you some credits. It gives me improved ping.

Best tool is an airplane: move to Japan.

Boats/ships work too I guess.

I personally use NordVPN and connect to HongKong #197 Server. My default ping (somehow it is routing thru US even if I’m from SEA) is in the 290s. With VPN i’m at like 76.

Mudfish will get you slightly better speeds but you still fall far behind JP players.

Mudfish works fine. For me it cuts ping in two. But you really have to be in location which can benefit from one of the Mudfish nodes. It will not work for everyone in a similar way.

It doesn’t really matter what VPN you use, you will still have the same, if not more, latency.

Imagine a straight highway from you to Cygames head office. No matter how many lanes there are on the highway (your connection speed ie optic fibre), you still need to travel 20,000km to reach their head office. VPN is the pit stops along the way, which would require detours and actually take more time.

Can you utilize mudfish on phone too? I know playing on PC is the way to go, but I tend to play mobile most of the time.

Thanks!

So no problems with using the mudfish extension? Nice to know.

As for the ping improvements, do you know how much it actually improves?

Mudfish lowered my ping from 250 to 130 with a good node. You can test it with their launcher and cmd ping to the server.
Dunno about the browser extension though. You can’t configure it the same as the launcher program. Sometimes it feels pretty slow. Can’t ping from the browser either to test the ping.

Yo bro, can you help - im really clueless in these kind of stuff - i downloaded mudfish and now its on the top thingy on chrome, i click on it and it shows list of servers do i just simply click japan server and go ahead and play? is there a specific kind of configuration? or no need? just connect and voom voom.

Next best thing is a lot cheaper but RNG: Be born in Asia (preferably Japan).

The first video I saw on YouTube on how to get a better ping in GBF was literally a guy flying to Tokyo hahaha.

hey thats pretty good, i’m from hk and play with around 50 ping, so you’re really not that far off

Oh, thanks for the tip! I’ll try it as well.

Do you use the browser extension from NordVPN?

I think its mostly routing. There’s no VPN black magic that can let you connect directly to Japan and get 10 ping. But what I’ve seen is that just using a VPN hub in my own city is technically lower ping than connecting directly from my city. Probably because that VPN hub is bypassing shitty local/intercontinental comcast routing.

That being said it does feel like VPN connection is less fast/stable in general, so while the ping may be lower it may not be a drastic improvement. That’s for someone who is usually like 120-130 ping though, so I’m gaining very little by VPN use.

I’m not expecting a miracle, just better speeds for farming actually. I’m not that much into racing tbh.

Likely that the other posters in this thread have ISPs who route traffic poorly, but somehow have good routing to their VPN endpoints. Only way I can think of that using a VPN will help

Depends. A good VPN can create a straight line for you. Depending on your normal connection and server quality in between you and your target server the ping can drastically increase. Ofc you will never decrease the minimum distance between you and Japan, but it makes a difference if you connect via tangle wires or a tunnel.
