I just finished watching all 15 seasons of TM… are the other variants of the show worth watching without Greg Davis… and are there any similar shows?
Thank you…
NZ and Austrailia are both absolutely worth watching. If you are okay with subtitles (and/or speak Swedish. . . .), “Bäst i test” is great too.
Taskmaster NZ is excellent. I enjoyed the first series but it took a few episodes to find its feet, whereas the second series is one of my favourite across all Taskmasters and the third one is also good. It somehow manages to have a very different feel to the UK version while still staying true to what makes Taskmaster Taskmaster. Kind of a leafy-green free range Taskmaster in contrast with the more urban UK one, maybe.
Taskmaster Australia seemed to hit the ground running right from series one, perhaps due to benefitting from working with one of the NZ writers and using the NZ Taskmaster house. Also definitely worth a watch.
After that, it depends on how you feel about subtitles!
NZ is pretty entertaining, I highly recommend.
I’ve loved all the international versions I’ve seen and I’d recommend them all.
If you like the idea of a Taskmaster who’s well and truly committed to being an unfettered dictator who plays by their own rules, you’ll probably like Maître du Jeu, Direktor Svemira and Suurmestari.
If you love Taskmaster, but think the scoring could stand to be a little more pedantic, you’ll probably like Bäst i Test.
If you like a wholesome, “we’re all good friends here” vibe, I think you would like Taskmaster: Portugal.
If you think Taskmaster is at its best when it reminds you of a teacher desperately trying to keep an unruly class from going completely off the rails on the last day of school, you might like Stormester.
If you like DIY, watch Kongen Befaler.
NZ season 2 could well be the best ever series in any country.
Absolutely. NZ Series 2 in particular which was so good 3 of its studio tasks and 3 video tasks were adapted into TMUK.
New Zealand season two is one of the best-ever Taskmaster seasons.
All I’ll say is, Taskmaster Australia is going to have Aaron Chen on next season. I know that’ll mean absolutely nothing to non-Aussie fans, but trust me, you want to get caught up for Aaron Chen.
I am obsessed with Taskmaster NZ. It is so well done. Paul is the perfect assistant and some of the tasks are off the charts.
There’s only been one series of Australia but when I heard Tom Gleason was cast as the Taskmaster, I knew it was the perfect choice. Can’t wait for season 2.
Taskmaster NZ and Taskmaster Australia are excellent. Kongen Befaler is good for watching people set things on fire. Stormester is fun. A lot of people like Bäst i Test but it’s not my favorite.
Also absolutely worth watching is Taskmaster US, except for some reason they called it “Taskmaster Minnesota”. You can find it on Youtube. And season 2 is coming out soon!
I love Taskmaster UK, and I love Taskmaster NZ probably more.
Taskmaster New Zealand series 2 is up there with the best of the UK, in my opinion.
For English versions, NZ is excellent. Australia has had a good first season as well.
For non English, Kongen Befaler (Norway) should be your first stop.
After that, explore on your own. I enjoy Surmestari (TM Finland) mostly because it’s fun watching people try to make the assistant Pilvi break character.
Avoid TM USA and TM Spain.
Yes to NZ and Australia. In terms of non english, I personally have enjoyed Denmark and Quebec the most, though Norway is popular too.
Also, there is a fanmade one called Taskmater Minnesota that’s on a shoestring budget, but everyone involved understands the assignment perfectly, and all of the tasks are original. The guy behind it all David Ha, he’s going places.
Le Maître de Jeu (French Canadian version) is a lot of fun. And 12 episodes instead of 10! I think it’s worth watching if you don’t mind subtitles or understand French.
NZ is good, but the scoring seems completely bonkers sometimes. Watch it for the tasks and the comedy of it, but if you’re someone who takes the scoring seriously (like my partner) you might not like it.
Worked my way through NZ, it’s great. Norwegian one is also good, lot more construction and less safety measures.
How are you guys finding TM NZ and Australia?
In my honest opinion, I think I prefer the NZ and AU versions on the whole to the UK versions, I think largely because I’m not a fan of Alex’s task style and I think the antipodean tasks are very well made. They’re all completely original (or incidentally similar) tasks, which does give those versions a lot of their charm I feel. Also NZ 2 and AU 1 must be 2 of my favourite casts ever.
To add to some others suggestions, Stormester (Denmark) and Kongen Befaler (Norway) are also fantastic. Norway especially, they’ve also written a lot of brilliant original tasks and have great cast dynamics.
