Hello fellow protonVPN enjoyers, i have recently switched to linux, i use debian 12 with kde plasma (wayland) and an nvidia gpu with the proprietary drivers, i just wanted to know two things:
Whats the difference between the flatpak and the official repo?
And
Do i have to do something else apart of clicking connect on the GUI?
My use cases are browsing, and sometimes torrenting.
Thanks in advance.
The flatpak is not,(tmk) supported by Proton. The official repo (or ppa) will provide the official app. I use neither, instead using openvpn via networkmanager on 1 box while using wireguard via systemd everywhere else. No clicking on anything. You may want to run the app downloaded from the repo just to use to find servers you like before you ever try openvpn or wireguard. The torrenting thing is for someone else to post about.
The flatpak as of this moment is an “unofficial mod” by the community, so if things start acting strange customer support will be very limited, for this scenario it’s best you follow the install instructions for Fedora.
Regarding torrenting, to avoid any possible issues you need to bind the tun0 interface to the torrenting client: How to torrent safely with a VPN | Proton VPN
