If you ask the hotel they will VPN your room - at least that’s what they did for us when we were in Shenzhen last week

I have Astril VPN but it seems to work worse than Express VPN even here in the UK. I have not used Astril in China but I always hear that it’s supposed to be the go to, but do to my problems with it here I’m not sure if it’s my best choice for when I move to China next year.

I want to give Mullvad a try but I haven’t heard enough about it yet. Anyone have positive experiences with this in China?

Let’sVPN sounds fantastic but I hear that some people get banned by their new AI security system for random things like downloading games. Anyone have any experience with this VPN in China as well?

Thanks for all replies :).

Avoid LetsVPN at all costs!

I was banned just two days after purchasing their service. They claimed I had “unusual traffic activity,” but I was simply syncing my OneDrive. Overall, a frustrating experience, and all they offered was a (partial) refund. Very disappointing service!

As an expat in China, would definitely recommend HeiBao VPN and LetsVPN. Avoid Astrill and V1 VPN.

The only downside to LetsVPN is that you can only have two devices in one account.

Not exactly a VPN question but tangential.

I have a Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. When I use roaming (from an Australian Esim) I get a stable 5G connected with ChinaMobile.

When I use a local China Mobile SIM card I am stuck on incredibly patchy LTE. Especially bad in malls, but normally quite good on the subway. It’s got to the point where I moved the Sim to an old iPhone (which can get stable 5G) and hotspot to my Pixel.

What is going on here? I know Google doesn’t activate 5g for this phone in unsupported territories, so I should only get 4G, but then why is it so patchy? And if I am physically able to get 5g when roaming, then doesn’t that mean Google isn’t really restricting it?

Has anyone moved to china recently, which VPN worked for you and which would you avoid?

Be sure to check users if they are bots or not. L(ets)VPN definitely has a bot farm here to boost themselves.

A friend who recently came back from China told me Let’s VPN worked for him flawlessly, but I’m hesitant to get it due to security risks, can anyone confirm if they’d be able to access your sensitive data (such as Passwords, authentificator…) if you use their VPN ?

i recommend 365VPN. very fast and stable. No speed limit and data cap. can load chatgpt/claude/gemini. can stream Netflix, max, disney + and paramount without problems. pm me to learn more.

I’m moving to Suzhou soon and my partner is joining me but she does remote work for a Singapore based company.

With all the VPN issues, does this seem like a ridiculous move?

Hey anyone know if a Disney or Prime subscription works if you get it through Apple TV+?

Normally they flag the vpn I use but I wondered if this might be a way around it.

Typing this post with Astrill, works and worked last year as well. Crazy expensive though.

does private relay from apple enough?

Has anyone here try Bull VPN? I heard it works, but i don’t know how well it does.

Anybody know of a working vpn that either supports Linux or let’s you share the VPN via your phone’s hotspot?

Is this still a big issue? I’ve literally had the same setup for years and none of my shits been banned/throttled etc. Not gloating or anything, I just haven’t had any issues.

Got let’s VPN and Mullard, going to china today, if I don’t reply within a month it means none works anymore💀(they should be fine I’m hoping)

I haven’t heard of that before. I’ll try next time- thanks!

that’s interesting, thanks for sharing!
