Kodi running on my windows pc. My VPN (ProtonVPN) is connected on my pc but my home router ip address is what is displayed in my Kodi system settings. Shouldn’t my vpn IP be displayed in my Kodi system settings?
A local intranet IP is not the same as a public IP.
For doing anything on your own network from inside that network you would use a local ip address usualy given to each device from your router/modem
Your vpn ip is your public/internet ip address and needs to be used when trying to do something on your network from outside that network (e.g the internet)
You should be using the ip address kodi gives if you are using stuff like remotes e.c.t.
If you are having trouble, make sure your vpn is allowing network pass through so you can connect 2 devices inside your network but they go through the vpn when accessing the Internet.
If you’re ever curious if your VPN is working, just do a search for weather and see what city/state comes up.
Thank you. That helps.
Short answer is no. Kodi will display your internal home network IP. But any outside traffic Kodi uses will be going through your VPN
