There’s a Brave VPN icon in my windows system tray. I can right click on it, and select “Remove Icon”, but it comes back after rebooting. I have the Brave VPN switch turned off in System Settings. Brave desktop version is 1.62.153. I didn’t see any other post in respect to this searching web and group. Any ideas how to permanently remove? Thanks!
Go to task manager, then startup apps tab. Right click on Brave VPN and click disable.
The VPN component should be removed sometime within the next month, and will only be installed when the user activates it.
Disable its Windows service.
Thanks, That did the trick. It was actually the “brave_vpn_wireguard_service.exe” But I never installed Brave VPN or Brave VPN Wireguard. I don’t know why it would have been there.
Good idea, but both services (Brave VPN and Brave VPN Wireguard) were set to run manually or triggered. In any case, I disabled both, but the VPN icon is still there.
Yeah for some reason it’s just sitting there idle waiting to be activated. Didn’t seem to be consuming resources but I don’t like it running when not in use either. They are fixing it so it does not do that. Had something to do with escalated admin rights at time of install making it easier to install and problematic to install later. Guessing they had to write a new separate installer to allow it to be installed after Brave is installed.
