I just ordered a TP-Link ER605, it has Omada, I have a question tho, though I’m new to this stuff, and I mainly only need this as a VPN service so that when I am traveling I can access the internet through my home country, can this work in that way? or is this only for sharing local (LAN) devices to a remote location? like I want to be able to put the VPN configuration into my laptop and phone so that when I’m in different countries I can get past blockers and some sites in general will only work if they are accessed from my home country. I have watched a few videos on setting this up, but most of them only show the fact that you can simply access local devices in your home by connecting to the Local area network (LAN) like local networked Storage. but I mainly just need to use it as a typical VPN service, (many countries block popular VPN services like Nordvpn, Surfshark, Express VPN, etc… and I don’t trust smaller VPN services that do tend to still work)
here is one of the videos that seems to work for my case but I don’t know if it does exactly what I described: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l34rB8OBl80
I do it as you say.
When away, I can access the internet through my home internet.
And also access my local files and servers.
Although after some update of the router, I lost connectivity but I think it is solved now. Not sure though.
Now I use a raspberry pi as my vpn server.
The Omada routers support both OpenVPN and Wireguard so yes, as long as your ISP doesn’t block your ports you should be able to use it.
I personally use Wireguard, which can be a bit cumbersome to configure at first. It’s actually not hard but it lacks proper documentation. There are posts in this sub that can help.
I also run a second Zerotier VPN because my backup LTE connection is behind CGNAT so I cannot reach my Wireguard.
I like Zerotier because it allows for custom IP addressing but Tailscale can also work, as long as you have a LAN computer like a Raspberry Pi to run their client.
You just need to run a VPN server on your own network. Be it on a router or always on computer.
I use the OpenVPN setup on my 7206 but only connect with my phone (so far) when I’m out and about on public wifi. Especially if I’m doing anything sensitive like online banking. Works great!
I have has used OpenVPN on my ER6o5 for quite a while mainly to connect to my cameras, home automation, etc remotely and it worked great, however it seemed to have recently stopped working. It shows that it has connected to the VPN and gets an local IP address via the VPN but I can no longer access anything on my local LAN.
I am not sure if something changed in a recent software update either with Omada or OpenVPN. I tried reinstalling the app on my phone and exported a new file for the openVPN app but continue to get the same result. Has anyone else seen anything like this in the past month or so?
How can I check if my ISP blocks VPN ports? My er605 is in DMZ of my internet router, yet I cannot reach it from the internet, and I’m trying to troubleshoot this.
I have the same problem. On the iPhone I activate the OpenVPN client, it appears to connect, but I cannot access any part of the local network. Does anyone by any chance know the reason why this stopped working? Could it be due to an IOS or IOS client update?
Try these for TCP
Not sure if there is one for UDP.
The .ovpn file the router creates is flawed, open in notepad and remove the “no” in front the lzw compression line, voila!
