Using Flint 2 with FiOS

Hello

A friend using FiOS is looking to get a Flint 2 because of the VPN server/client functionality it provides.

Curious if they can replace their Verizon router with the Flint 2 directly? Would they need to do anything to configure the Flint 2 to get it to work with FiOS? Any issues to be aware of (and any workarounds)?

Not seeing a lot of posts about Flint2/FiOS so wondering about compatibility. They could go with the Flint if that’s got better compatibility but prefer the Flint 2 for the higher VPN speeds.

Thank you so much!

FIOS has VPN passthru, no problem

This is my setup. Just replace the Fios router with the Flint 2, reboot the ONT and he is good to go. On a side note, every time you reboot the Flint 2 you will get a new IP address so make sure ddns is enabled.

What do you mean it has vpn pass through? I’m not understanding

Thanks! This is great to know. How do you reboot an ONT? It’s been a while since I saw a FiOS setup, I assumed the power was only for the router, is the ONT plugged in as well? I believe his ONT is a box mounted on the wall.

Meaning you can hook up your Flint 2 to the Verizon router and have it pass everything to your Flint 2 as if the Verizon router isn’t even there.

A VPN passthrough allows your VPN traffic to move through your router without being blocked. It’s a feature explicitly tailored for older VPN protocols that cannot establish a VPN connection over a router without the help of a passthrough tunnel.

just plug it out for a few seconds and plug back in

Thanks! In this case, I’m thinking to replace the Verizon router completely, so the Flint 2 would be the only router. Wondering if that configuration would be an issue?

Thanks! I’m not very familiar with VPN technicals so this is helpful!

Customer service is kinder to you if you still have Verizon equipment. Configuration changes would be necessary but not very difficult.

Yup, was looking at this prior and it seems straightforward enough

True on the customer service part. I imagine as long as it works, should be fine

Any idea what config changes would be needed? From what I read, just releasing DHCP lease and connecting Ethernet to new device is all I need to do?
