I read that some people will using a VPN to “move their location” to another country to get cheaper subscriptions
For example YT Premium is $14/month here in the U.S. but if I “moved” to Turkey it’d only be $1/month
What do you guys think of doing that? I think it’s technically fraud, but I’d imagine there wouldn’t be articles everywhere on how to do it if that was a major concern
I’d love to save money wherever I can, so that’d be awesome
Lots of companies have already started to catch on the simple VPN method. It’s easier to just directly buy a new account w/ YT premium 4-month free trial for like 5$.
Well you can ! It is possible. If you have tight budget , then change the country . If you have money to spend , then no need of any of these . YouTube premium is worth as far as my understanding.
How would the billing work? If I sign up for YT in “Turkey”, then the first month bill comes due and I don’t have my VPN on, Will I be found out or charged the US rate? Or both?
Be aware that the content available in other countries may not be the same as in the US. I would expect that the Turkish version of YT Premium has fewer US produced shows and more Turkish or EU produced shows. I know Netflix in GB for instance is different shows than in the US. They may also require you to have a Turkey address and credit card that is valid in Turkey.
Used to be easy, last march I got an annual subscription for the first time and it was as simple as joining another country’s network and paying with my original card and original account, no questions asked. Now it ran out and they want me to pay 5 times the amount I was only reluctantly paying to get rid of the annoyance for my android tv box. I don’t watch youtube nearly enough to justify paying so much each month. I’d rather use adblock and stream youtube to my tv from my laptop than pay scalper prices for something I barely use most of the time.
So, great work, google/youtube. Before you got a fair payment from me, a price that was even then barely worth it. Now you don’t get jack shit. Get bent. If someday it gets even more restrictive than just ads that can be blocked, that’s the day I and so many others just move on to other alternatives. Monopoly doesn’t last if you screw things up too badly.
But I suppose many people actually use youtube every day, in which case they can justify coughing up so much money. There should be a ”light” option for users that restrict view time each month without ads or something.
I’m from Turkey and I’m currently in Germany. I used teamviewer with my pc in Turkey to get a subscription. If you know someone from there, they could help.
no you automatically get charged the 2 bucks a month. it doesn’t change if your vpn changes. that would be stupid cuz if ur actually turkish and you visit america for example you’d be charged way more. its completely fine and i have been on the subscription since october
Hey man, thanks for the tip re jdownloader. Howevet, I can’t find it in the chrome extension store or the firefox extension store. Do you know if it’s still a thing?
