I believe it is not so simple with just VPNs. They use different login methods than Supercell ID or Game Center. If they want to come back to the regular server, they just need to link up with Supercell ID. Unfortunately, Supercell ID was never given as a login method before in the Chinese app.

I suspect Supercell identifies Chinese players through the login methods. Only Chinese players have different ways to login to Clash. The rest of the world just use Supercell ID and Game Center.

People saying “they’ll just use VPNs” knows very little about the situation…

Maybe some will, but it’s pretty ballsy to try circumvent the Chinese government…

Chinese players can still join international servers tho

For iOS:

  1. Get a VPN
  2. Create a gmail account
  3. Use that email to create a foreign Apple ID
  4. Login with apple ID in app store
  5. Download clash of clans on the App store

For Android:
Get a non-Chinese brand android phone, then repeat the steps in iOS section, except instead of Apple ID, use google play.

I’m a Chinese player using Supercell ID and although I’m in China, I can still login the international server without VPN(for now). Before years ago, we can choose only one login method between Supercell ID and other Content Providers’(Tencent is not the only one. There are other providers in China). I chose the supercell ID because I think it is official.

What happened these days is all the players chose Chinese providers are forced to update their game and be transferred to Chinese server(meanwile be removed from international server). I can still see their names in my clan member and social friends list but no longer visit the village or profiles.

So you’re right that it’s not just simple with VPNs. Their data is thoroughly separated from the world and not able to be linked back again.

It is much more complicated for android. Google is banned in China. You have to install the google apps and services yourself. Not everyone knows how to do it.

The best way I think is skipping google play and getting the international version apk, then install directly. The problem is you will have to update manually everytime.

Honestly we all got a shitty deal from this move. Splitting the servers like this only shrinks the pool of players for everyone. I looked at my attack log after the update and I had attacked a lot of bases with Chinese names for a lot of loot. Their profiles are gone, so they got moved. This isn’t like removing Fiji from the player base (no offense to Fijians). It was a massive chunk of the community just gone in an instant.

In your case, you would stay in the regular server with VPNs since you linked with Supercell ID. Difficult for you to move to the Chinese server now.

That might only be temporary from maintenance. Supercell duplicated Chinese players’ database to the new Chinese server and ‘terminated’ their old accounts in our server. Those ‘terminated’ accounts might still be searchable but nothing been shown. In few weeks, those ‘terminated’ Chinese accounts will be permanently erased.

Yes, can start new accounts from TH1…But it’s a sad choice have to give up the account you played almost for ten years.

I am very sad because there was not any annoucement about it. And the Chinese players did not have a choice to stay in the international server or move to Chinese server. We even did not have a chance to say fareware to the world.

I agree. Not easy to start from scratch. I hear some Chinese players are leaving the game now because they can’t find any loot. They just lost 60-70% of the global players. It’s a sad situation.

This is nothing new. Get used to politics. You guys don’t get a choice. Every game you can name, I bet there is an exclusive Chinese server. Games without an exclusive local server for Chinese players will be removed.
