Any way you could try digging up that guide? Also what image did you pick?
Hold on! Download station can grab torrents using the magnet?
I did not know this.

That’s also what I use. Sadly, the owner deprecated it and won’t be maintaining it anymore because someone submitted an issue that there was an IP leak, so he got scared and stopped the project, but it turns out the person who submitted the issue didn’t know what they were doing and it was a false alarm.
I’ve tested it with no leaks. I use PIA as my VPN.
You are right that this would be the easier solution, but it’ll run like a Toyota Corolla. Setting up gluetun + qbittorrent in docker is only moderately more complex, but runs like a Porsche. The extra time you spend learning and setting up docker containers will pay enormous dividends.
Especially when you move into the *arr suite of apps and fully automate your setup.
Generally speaking, you’ll need a model that supports Docker to have VMM available
How is the 920+ btw? I’m gonna deploy one over the holidays. How many containers do you have running and how performant is the NAS?
Is there a write or video on this?
This is what i use as well. I actually have two networks setup, one with Windscribe and another with VPNUnlimited. I put qBittorrent on one, NZBGet on the other.
The sole reason I do this is to split download resources in case one goes down.
Yeah, thats the one I used I think.
I can’t remember the exact guide I used but it may have been this one - similar anyway: https://petestechblog.com/2020/10/04/how-to-run-transmission-using-openvpn-in-docker-on-a-synology-nas-dsm-6-0/
It was a couple of years ago. I’m using NordVPN btw.
You can even put them in a textfile to and load that in DS.
I prefer these guides over Dr Frankenstein
I have 21 containers running on my ds920 and my CPU usage is generally around 10-25%. It purrs like a kitten.
I added an extra 16gb of RAM as well, which stays consistent at about 20% usage.
The DS920 is the best purchase I’ve made in years. It can do so many things, and all without a hitch. After I finished the initial setup I started looking for other ways to utilize the ds920, and six months later I’m still stumbling onto amazing ways that it can improve my quality of life.
A month ago I got bored and decided to check out home assistant. A few weeks later and the ds920 is controlling all my lights, switches, cameras, HVAC, you name it. The versatility is incredible.
No seeding requirements and no need to rely on seed count for high download speeds are arguably the big two.
Whats the back-end engine? I feel like I looked at this before but it didnt work for the private trackers I used.
Impressive! Did you use Synology DIMMs or third party? How fussy was DSM about the extra RAM?
I have no idea. It works for piratebay and 1337x so far.
I believe it was a Samsung ram module. It was plug and play. After first boot it was immediately recognized and DSM reflected 20 GB of RAM available.
I researched what ram to get on Reddit and bought one that was proven to work. Reddit has tutorials on almost anything ds920 related, it’s great.
