Streaming live TV with VPN abroad

Hello,

Total VPN newb here. I live in the US but will in traveling to Canada next month. There will be Wifi but no TV where we’re staying, but I’d like to watch the Olympics. If I bring my laptop with a VPN client installed, I should be able to stream live TV via my Peacock account over VPN, correct? Last time I was in Canada, I was unable to stream live TV via my streaming services because it detected that I wasn’t in the US.

Thanks for confirming, correcting or any suggestions!

VPNs uses commercial IPs so that streaming platforms can easily detect where the traffic is coming from. Try to use VPNs which provides premium optimized US servers so that you can unblock content which is US based from any location. Try to use good VPN services dont use free VPNs they are not secure and also easy to detect

What router do you have at home?

The “best” solution would be to setup a VPN server at your home and use that while traveling. On devices with no GPS, this will be the easiest way to view streaming content. No need to try a bunch of VPN servers to see which ones work with different streaming services.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll look into a good, paid VPN app.

Thank you. I have an Adtran 854-v-6-1 I believe.

Thanks, sadly that doesn’t appear to support a VPN server, so you best bet would likely be to try a VPN service that you can still access your streaming services through.

Thanks a ton for this suggestion. I’ve found some good videos on the basics of Tailscale and exit nodes. I’m gonna do some learning this weekend. I’ll def take you up on your generous offer to help if I need it (I might).

I suppose I could just get a router that does support a VPN server.

Thanks for this advice. I need to do a bit of learning about these devices but it sounds like the most reliable set up.

Yes, and I would recommend Unifi Express

Probably one of the best bang for the buck routers on the market and a great entry into the best home networking ecosystem.
