Now that Google VPN is available for Pixel 7’s via Google One app… I’m not sure which to use. Is it the same network? Does the VPN via Google One have more… settings / customization than Google Fi’s VPN?
Thanks!

I prefer Google Fi VPN for two reasons.
I don’t like the notification the Google one VPN uses. I prefer the status bar icon used for Google Fi.
The system reports Google One VPN as active and running on the quick settings panel of the notification shade.
To me Google Fi seems more seamless and silently working in the background.
I did the update but I still don’t get the VPN benefits in the One apk.
Use the free VPN from the company that sells your data.
I turned on both at the same time to see if it would work and it does. Would double VPN be any different since it is both from Google?
Does the Google Fi VPN offer more settings options than the Google 1 VPN?
How do you turn on the VPN from Google Fi? Just flipped through the app and couldn’t find it.
I switched to the Google 1 VPN for no other reason than it’s easier to turn off. You can add a button in the notification shade.
Why, because I also use paid Express VPN sometimes and have a widget to turn that on. It was a matter of faster switching for me.
Good points. It does seem Fi is more integrated.
Just want to point out that you can hide the notification from the Google One VPN by long pressing on the notification and disabling it. Regardless… Still feels like Fi is more “integrated” ?
Make sure to update all your apps via the play store. I always do this after installing an update. Usually a lot of core apps get updates after an OS update.
Try that? Only thing I can think of
I still didnt receive the one vpn. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
I am already a premium member of google one from India
FYI the Google VPN is not free for everyone, it comes with the carrier service (paid monthly), Google One storage 2tb (paid monthly) or with their own hardware.
Also, Google doesn’t sell users data, that would give an advantage to their competitors in the ad business. Imagine if Yahoo says “hey I can give you the same target accuracy for the ads as Google at 1/3 their price”.
Google sells ad space, they position their ads with data from Google’s users.
I’m already using a Pixel… ¯\_༼ᴼل͜ᴼ༽_/¯
If I’m doing something “sensitive” I also have ProtonVPN.
Google VPN is good for it’s deep integration… I like the “security” it provides on public wifi access points, and the fact that it hides my activity from my network providers (hrmm, which is Fi… So maybe moot point).
If I disable the notification I have no indication the VPN is running. The Google Fi VPN gives me an indicator but it’s not a cluttering up my notification shade. My qualms with Google One are incredibly petty but I can’t help prefer one over the other. I hope in the future they can integrate Google One VPN to a similar degree so I can switch to that service as it passes traffic from hotspot devices through the VPN connection while Google Fi does not.
Got it after force stop the application
Yep. As soon as my patch was installed I had 6 app updates including Google One.
Not available in India…
“devices in India and Singapore aren’t eligible”
Hmmm I’m confused… I have a status VPN icon with the One VPN:

Interesting. I wonder why they need two ways to notify the user.
