Slow torrent speeds

So I’ve experienced very slow download speeds. I have 500mbs fibre broadband but when I have my vpn active I only get around 1-2mbs. As soon as I turn off my vpn I can get speeds of around 50-70mbs depending on the amount of seeds etc. Any way to get better speeds or is this the only way to stay incognito

For the BitTorrent protocol to work at least one peer has to have a publicly open port (be an active node). When inside a VPN all outgoing ports are closed, meaning that you can’t connect to other peers who also have their ports closed.

This is what causes the lower speeds, as Bittorrent usually requires you to connect to several peers to get good download speeds (and upload speeds).

dedicated ip is alot faster, its their servers. the default ones are slow as hell

also look here to compare speeds

Cyberghost is painfully slow.

Did you select a sever specifically for P2P from thee For Torrenting tab?

Also for me, using OpenVPN-TCP increased my torrent download speed.

Do cyber ghost have decimated IP servers? Sorry if that’s a dumb ass question this is my first VPN

Fuckkk that’s outrageously slow!! I think I chose the wrong vpn :man_facepalming: so you can add a dedicated ip for £5? Debating whether to sack off from cyber ghost and go nord vpn

brotha , you are the king, didnt have any download speed at all , now im at 220mbps again . i hought auto protocol would always choose the perfect option

Thanks I’ve solved this issues. Choose wire guard as my protocol

they do, you can add one for 5 bucks

I have 3 years left on cyberghost – their good for clean dedicated ip thats cheap but slow. Also they have poor router support and only support custom frimwares that often downgrade high end routers today (vpn fusion for example)- all because the .ovpn files are poorly configured. I talked to their support and they refuse to send me correctly configured .ovpn files.

Honestly, i wouldnt want a slow vpn on my whole house either so i switched.

I signed up with nord a couple days ago and applied it as a vpn on my router, and its just as fast as my wired connection without vpn. So i know the speeds in that graph are accurate.

its more expensive for sure, and their dedicated ip is 40/mo which is extreme so i feel like theirs a use case for both, but nord is way better speed wise for sure.

No, you should try different ones in different situations.

Thanks I’ll look into this. Guess it’s fairly easy to find on the application?
