Setting up SonicWall VPN to work without a SonicWall box

Hello all,

I am new to networking and this space in general so I apologize.

A client of mine wants me to setup a connection so they can RDP from their office computer to home computer.

I currently have it setup to work from their home computer to their office computer using the Global VPN Client. They don’t have a SonicWall at their home office but a NETGEAR R7000.

Is there an option with SonicWall to use the Global VPN Client to their home network even though they don’t have a SonicWall at their home network?

No, there is no option for this. SonicWall GVC doesn’t connect to non-SonicWall appliances. You could use IPSEC if the net gear supports it.

Unusual thing for them to request. Would be interested to know the reason, just from a curiosity point of view!

But no, SonicWall clients like GVPN and NetExtender only work with SonicWall firewalls.

You could set up AnyDesk in unattended mode on their home PC though?

Create SSL-VPN on the Sonicwall and install nextender or mobile connect on the PC

You should setup S2S IPsec VPN

Check Netgear and Sonicwall knowledge base sites.

Potentially if the GVPN / SSLVPN is always running on his home computer you can probably create firewall rules to allow RDP to the home system.

But sounds like crap to support, everytime he forgets to connect, or something changes on the home PC. Or, even more important, if his home PC is windows HOME, then you can’t RDP to it.

There is not but you can create a rule to allow him to connect direct on the office computer without GVC but I would recommend that you allow it only from your client public IP address.

Basicly on Firewall create a WAN > LAN rule and on source put your client IP address or DNS.

On NAT create the rule to translate the connection.

As long as the house computer is connected to the SonicWall VPN, and the rules are set correctly, they should be able to RDP to the house computer.

Unfortunately the R7000 does not have this as an option.
