Recommended VPN setup for torrents

Hey everyone!
I’m quite new to this space and was wondering if anyone here could give me some guidance/insight on their full proof Synology system VPN setup.

My issue currently is that I went with NordVPN but found out after that seeding was not really an option.
I’ve also had a few random connection errors which resulted in me having to reconnect everything.

What VPN do you guys use to insure you are safe from the eyes of your ISP and other outside eyes?

How do you seed your torrents?

I’d appreciate any assistance I can get.
Apologies in advance if anything wasn’t clear!

qbittorrent and mullvad VPN in docker used to work a treat, but I moved to a seedbox a while back and much prefer it.

TorGuard is pretty easy

Been using Windscribe for many years now, definitely recommend.

Docker container that is both the torrent app and VPN connectivity

If you’re on a private tracker they tend to have strict VPN rules so see if you can use a VPN at all

I use qBitorrent to seed and AirVPN for my VPN which allows me to port forward. It’s been working wonderfully for me.

I’m running delugeVPN docker with TorGuard. I have a static IP/port forwarding with them for seeding and it works well.

Using docker, deluge + gluetun for custom vpn setup. Went with this route to allow me to route other containers to the gluetun vpn container when needed. Setup proxy with gluetun too.

I set up a system where my family can request movies/shows and it auto downloads so a lot of torrents get submitted into deluge more than usual.

I’m mostly trying to avoid getting flagged by my ISP.
Would you say a seedbox would help with that over a VPN?
I’ve read up on it but a lot of people said it serves two seperate purposes so I got a little confused by it.

Will look into it, thank you!

Good to know, I wasn’t aware of the possibility of VPN rules for private trackers.
I’m in a few but usually raw dogged my torrents and never went the VPN route on my PC.

Appreciate the info!

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll look into them

I’m looking at this set up currently, any guides as to how to get it set up?

How long have you been doing it with that method?
Any issues with your ISP flagging you down when downloading/seeding?

Either approach should be sufficient to prevent your ISP from identifying exactly what you are downloading and uploading if done correctly, but using a VPN your ISP will still see the traffic for uploads/seeding which may or may not be a concern for you.

I personally prefer a seedbox because of the better upload speeds over my ISP connection and the uptime.

If you use a private tracker that doesn’t let you use a VPN then run two torrent clients. You can do that with Docker.

I used a number of different guides, mixed them all together and put them in a docker compose ‘stack’ tweeked for my needs using Portainer to run it. If you’re in the mood I can try to walk you through my docker compose. DM me if you’d like to give it a try.

I’ve been using TorGuard for about 3 years after my ISP flagged me. Originally I was using the normal Deluge client with SOCKS5 proxy setup to TorGuard. It worked quite well. When I got my NAS about 18 months ago I decided to setup the whole Arr suite and chose DelugeVPN as I liked the client. Now I maintain good ratios on 3 different trackers.

Perfect, the seedbox route might be the option I go with.
Thank you for the further explanation on the matter, I appreciate it a lot.

Do you have any seedbox recommendations?
