Got a UDR to play with VPN setting while exploring a multisite build out.
After getting the UDR I was very quickly disappointed to learn that using UDRs will not work as I had hoped.
UDR VPN Client Options: OpenVPN
UDR VPN Server Options: Wireguard, L2TP
I don’t understand why they would build their options that way and not just allow OpenVPN on both the server and client side.
Edit: It looks like OpenVPN will be an option in the VPN server list eventually. It’s currently in the works.
VPN is probably the only thing I would categorize under Unifi as completely useless!!! I too wish it would just work.
The UDR can do OpenVPN and IPSec Site to Site VPN to another UDR or another VPN appliance.
You looked at the remote access VPN options, not the site to site VPN.

I have a site-to-site openVPN link between my UDR and my parents UDR that’s been running for a year at least, I think you might be looking in the wrong spot.
I can verify in the morning if needed!
Any source for the OpenVPN server in works information?
I just tell myself they’re not including it because they can’t figure out a security thing and that makes me feel better haha
Only as a server to the app like on Android, or iOS, not to another UDR.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but site-to-site is intranet only. I would like to tunnel internet access from one site to another to bypass localized (TV market) georestrictions.
So, I’m looking at the VPN server settings and the VPN client settings.
It’s included in ** [defiantly not experimental] updates, so not guaranteed but at the least a WIP.
yes i as well think this is sad that such things are not passible “easy” through the frontend. you can look at https://github.com/peacey/split-vpn to see if you can get such working but its then not an out of the box solution again.
Did an edit; it looks like they’re working on the OpenVPN server at the moment.
Definitely not currently running at 2 of my sites with a 3rd in Spain about to be spun up.
