So currently I’m in China right now, and when I use ProtonVPN to connect through any wifi network in China, the VPN won’t be able to connect, but because I also bought a Sim card in China to be able to use mobile data, which also means I’m able to use mobile hotspot on my laptop, I was able to connect using ProtonVPN on my laptop which works really well. Now I’m using ProtonVPN with mobile hotspot on my laptop writing this Reddit post 
Are you sure it’s a Chinese SIM card?
Bruh my wireguard works too, protonvpn uses the same protocol. If the IP is not blocked, you can connect, but as soon as the traffic is up you’ll get throttled or temporarily blocked. I’m on cable, china mobile.
Yup, and you can access foreign apps from your phone too. All you have to do is open your mobile data on phone, and then use ProtonVPN, done.
Proton now has Stealth protocol. Try that.
I do not believe the sim card was Chinese, did you buy in Taiwan or HK by any chance? What does it say in the top left of your screen?
I bought the SIM card in China, Foshan. In the top left of my phone screen it says China unicom
You could be roaming. Without connecting to your protonvpn and searching up your IP address, do you get a Chinese ip?
I fully believe he’s roaming and doesn’t realise it.
If you turn off the VPN, does Reddit still work?
China blocks every foreign website unless you use a vpn that bypasses the GFW, so that answers your question
But this is a stupid answer, China also blocks proton. We are trying to help you find out what you are missing. China does not block every foreign website either that is silly.
If you really think China blocks proton, then I gotta say that when I try to connect using Proton with wifi in China, I couldn’t connect, but if I were to use mobile data, then it does, so idk what you’re referring to
