Proton provides free VPN servers in lead up to elections
Always curious how does proton make money.
Love my free proton VPN. It works great and it doesn’t slow me down like every other free VPN out there.
To those who have used both Proton VPN and other paid VPN services, how do they compare? Any notable differences in performance (speed or ping)?
Excuse my stoopid, every time I try to use it safari makes me go through captcha that sometimes won’t even work if I don’t turn proton off and then on, is this user error or a setting I need to change?
I absolutely cherisch them for this move. Its outright awesome. Don’t know how much it actually will help, but nonetheless. I have a great appreciation for everyone and everything that is willing to fight for democrarcy, no matter how small the contribution is.
How do we know Proton is doing what it says it is, and that their VPN services work? And that they arent recording users internet usage instead, for research, and then making you think you were using a VPN.
Proton is great. Using it as I write this
To what end? What’s the venn diagram where having a VPN during election season is needed more than non-election season?
Cynical take: Sounds like a way to get the people in those countries hooked to VPN, and buy it after the elections are over.
I’ve paid them $4.99/month for years.
As long as I know them they’ve always stated their VPN is relatively expensive because you’re helping all those who need a VPN and can’t afford it.
I pay for their high security email service and cloud storage
Subscriptions
Horizon 2020 program once
Swiss Innovation Agency (?)
they recently transitioned to a non-profit too, making things even more confusing
I paid 1$ for one month sub two times
It’s fee only in 20 countries know to be restrictive online. United States, where I am, is not on the list unfortunately. So they’re still making money
I pay them like 20$ for a family plan and custom domains
I would imagine they sell your data.
