Problem with logging into services using proton VPN

Hello, is there anyone else besides me who get into trouble with cloudflare and other anti bot mechanisms when using services like office 365, chatgpt and other?

When i try to log into services using proton VPN i get into anti bot measures from cloudflare and that i previously tried logging into these services multiple times and get locked out. However if I disable VPN I don’t have this problem. Is it because some of the IPs are black listed?

There are services that block or restrict VPN connections to make sure they’re from humans.

I’m always presented a Cloudflare “I’m a human” check when trying to use ChatGPT for the first time in a specific IP (that means if Proton VPN changes me to another server or I manually reconnect, I’m getting a new check).

I don’t have Proton, but do they offer dedicated IP’s? That may be your answer.

I have same problems when VPN is on. Have to click Im human check a lot of time if using Google services, search, gmail and sometime all mine gmail accounts were gone. Have to manual add them all back. Amazon is most pain in the ass. Verify through mail and phone few times thats really me login in mine amazon account. Same for Microsoft, META and a lot others accounts. So now every time Im using them I will turn VPN off first.

Unfortunately, some web services are not VPN-friendly and are actively blocking known VPN IP addresses. That said, we’re working on resolving issues of this sort ourselves, so feel free to contact us at https://protonvpn.com/support-form with more details about all the websites and apps you’re having trouble accessing, as well as the servers you’re connected to when trying to access them so we can note your feedback for future improvement. Meanwhile, you can try switching between multiple different servers to see how it goes.

Everyone has this problem, any VPN server has this. This is normal for a VPN server, there is no point in changing

Well… I have Nord, and I pay for a Dedicated IP, and I still have this problem. I am constantly having to switch from Dedicated to P2P to Pause depending on the URL I’m visiting.

It really is incredibly frustrating.

Crazy how much people data mine. And I bet Proton have knowledge of this yet does nothing and let us share IP with these bots.

I can admit that when I used Surfshark some years ago (it’s owned by Nord and basically their discounter brand) it became pretty much unusable with many services because they either fully blocked Surfshark connections or gave you endless captchas every time. Proton is a lot better compared to Surfshark but still has these issues.

Adding to that, they have to list each of their servers when a user has paid a membership and so on any person with some rest http api knowledge could build a list and maintain it, so that’s not gonna do it for you unless you rent some home residential servers and make a VPN yourself. Tldr; any major VPN that lists their server or that has checks could be determined to be a VPN.

Edit: also make sure to check your ASN ISP provider using tools such as ipinfo.io as it can easily determine everything there is to know about your IP.

Yeah and when i get to enter the Microsoft details so to speak. I get an error and need to reset my password because of too many tries. And i haven’t yet provided a password. It’s the next prompt. But if I disable proton VPN I don’t get that at all. So I believe something is weird.

Maybe this is how it’s supposed to work but it’s a hassle and I didn’t believe it would be this messy to use this service for that kind of purpose. But maybe that was only my expectation.

Thank god I thought i was alone with these problems.

Yeah my expectation was to not handle VPN this way, it surely is a hassle. So one guy further up recommended a dedicated IP so if we are lucky it’s not used for bot activity and not blacklisted by cloudflare and other services. So I believe this is the last time I pay so much for a service like this where I have to share my IP with suspicious bots data mining. Because if so they should definitely lower the price tag for this service.

Well thank you for the advice, proton customer service. However, its basically Gmail, Chatgpt, Microsoft 365 example. I don’t have more examples as of now. But I will try rotate to different servers. However such a shame people bot on your IP’s I feel like your service is kinda poor ATM. So I do feel like 2 year in advanced payment was a huge mistake.

I didn’t know this, but thanks for enlightening me. I will go for a dedicated IP.

I’ve never had these issues you’re relating (except captchas).

Maybe you could try servers from a different country?

Yeah I guess so, would be a bad service if they knew what you were doing. Still frustrating to share a flagged IP.

Yeah I could for sure rotate and see if that resolves the issue.
