PIA and Streaming

Looking to add PIA as my VPN on my travel router, Beryl AX GL-MT3000, for use when I’m in hotels. I’ll have my devices connecting thru the router including my Chromecast. Seeing some mentions that streaming services may not work with PIA. I don’t plan to make it as if I’m in another country to access different content just want more security on the hotel WiFi. Would also use PIA directly on my devices when on a public hotspot without my travel router so I’m curious what real world experience is like when using streaming. I mainly use YouTube, YouTubeTV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Max in that order.

You won’t be able to stream anything. The streaming services know who is using VPN, and you won’t be able to watch maybe youtube will let it slide. I think mullvad is better than pia.

I think what you are after is more of a VPN server at your house setup as an exit node. It’ll give you the privacy you are looking for while allowing you to stream and not have the constraints of IP blacklist. Now be mindful that this may breach some ToS depending on the service and place you are staying at that time.

PIA has specific servers for streaming

If your sole reason for using a VPN is streaming, then you may want to look for one that specializes specifically in that

How do you tell which pia servers are for streaming? I have gone thru 6-7 servers and still get a blocked message. I work on a ship so a vpn to get us servers for me is a must. When I try to log in without a vpn I am still region blocked ie I was in mexico for a week and both hulu and netflix where like nope not having it.

They’re marked in the app

Because keeping streaming up is a game of whack-a-mole, the streaming optimized servers are constantly changing

Marked with what? in my app I dont see any special markings on any of the servers, US or otherwise

Edited to add found it. i was looking for an icon/symbol not the phrase optimized for streaming which was at the very bottom of the list lol.
