I have been using Opera for the past year and I was wondering if there were better browsers. I saw a lot of people talking about Vivaldi. So i decided to try it. It seems to have a lot of my favorite features from Opera. But i am wondering if it has anything extra that would make me switch. My favorite features from Opera are the workspaces, sidebar, ad blocker, vpn, lucid mode and tab island. Please confirm which of these there are in Vivaldi and if theres anything extra. Also dont give me the normal China opinion on Opera. I dont care about that
- Workspaces - yes, Vivaldi has them
- Sidebar - yes
- Adblocker - yes and you can install uBlock Origin if you want
- VPN - no, but you can install an extension or WARP for Windows
- Lucid Mode - no, only Opera has this feature
- Tab Islands - 50/50, yes but not as good as Opera
Overall, I would recommend you to try Vivaldi at least for a week or two
On Vivaldi, you can choose from a wider variety of search engines. You can also add & choose your own. In addition, on the sidebar, you can add & choose different sites.
However, Vivaldi doesn’t have its own extension store, as Opera does, so you’ll have to go to the Chrome store since Opera extensions cannot be added to any browser but Opera.
Vivaldi. Do not use Opera. It’s probably the worst option out there.
Extra are Mouse gestures, notes, quick commands, customizable menus and toolbars, chains, session manager, themes…
Maybe Opera has some of those, haven’t used it much recently.
I use both so I recommend you continue with Opera. The VPN option alone is baller. Vivaldi has many features but it can be quite bloated from go consuming a lot of ram. Normally not very noticeable but I use and write a lot of memory intensive software and often have to close vivaldi to do my development. Opera on the other hand not that much. However if you are someone who needs access to your calendar, mail and need granular control of browser features, switch to Vivaldi. Vivaldi is basically for people who prefer to work within a browser. If that is you Vivaldi is good but checking out Arc might also be worthwhile.
Vivaldi or maybe Brave.
Try N browser if privacy is your aim, it blocks microphone and camera permanently and deletes cookies and sites data every time you press the “Back” or “Enter” button
Email and calendar client is really unnecessary in a browser. I wish Vivaldi would give less focus on building an email client and a calendar and more focus on the browser itself. And let’s be honest, Vivaldi’s email client’s UI is garbage. It’s already overwhelming to go through a long cluttered list of emails, and vivaldi’s UI makes it worse. Vivaldi can’t do it better than Outlook or Gmail. It’d be better to just try to integrate Outlook or Gmail instead of building its own client.
Tab stacking in Vivaldi is also the worst I’ve seen in any browser. There’re no colored tab stacks, so I can’t visually make out the difference between a tab stack and a tab. Nothing beats Chrome like Tab groups as of today.
I tried Vivaldi twice, and it was such a let down. The thing I disliked the most, is the non-readable UI and the inability to set different widths for different web panels in the side panel, not to mention the horrible tab stacks.
The only feature I liked in Vivaldi is: Sessions.
Edge has something similar to lucid mode, I don’t know if it’s as good though
Vivaldis workspaces lack sync between devices in compare to edge and opera! Workspaces are missing on phone in all browsers too.
Other than that vivaldi is great.
I use it for like accessing stuff in other countries
Opera doesn’t have a VPN. What they include in the browser for free is just a proxy. Opera has a real VPN, it is called Opera VPN Pro and you need to pay for it. If someone needs a free basic VPN, the free version of Proton VPN is such a better choice.
Well whatever it is, its quite good in a pinch.
Depends on your needs. Give it a try and if it dont suit you maybe try Firefox with Ublockorgin extension
Opera also has both Workspaces and Tab group. Edge also has it, and so does Arc.
It depends on how you see it. Using a proxy/vpn from an ad company… Kunlun Tech Co sells ads. I wouldn’t use a vpn, especially a FREE one, from an ad company. Like I wouldn’t use Google’s VPN (they recently shut it down lol because nobody was using it) or Microsoft’s VPN. There is no way in hell they don’t keep logs… so what is the purpose of using a vpn that keeps logs? Just to have the illusion you are not tracked?
Edge has chrome-like colored tab groups, which is far better than the stab stacks in Vivaldi. Besides, Edge’s workspaces allow you to collaborate. Arc’s workspaces allow you to have separate profiles. Their workspaces have an additional function besides just sorting tabs.
