New User - Confusing speed test results on laptop and mobile

I recently decided to try using a VPN And purchased a Proton subscription after using the free version for a few days on my phone. When I checked download speeds I got some interesting results:

Phone (Android) on Wi-fi: 151 Mbps with VPN; 73 Mbps without

Phone (Android) on cell (Google-Fi/T-Mobile): 54.6 Mbps with VPN; 61 Mbps without

Laptop (Win 11) on Wi-fi: 43 Mbps with VPN: 315 Mbps without

What surprised me is my phone, on wifi, has faster DL speeds with the VPN on. And, my laptop, while I expected DL speeds to be slower, is much slower than I expected. Is there something Im not understanding or is this normal?

Keep in mind there are several factors that might affect your speed:

The protocol you use, Wireguard or OpenVPN. Depending on your hardware, one might be faster than the other.

The VPN server you are connecting to. Distance and load.

The speedtest server you are connecting to.

(Also, 315Mbps are impressive wifi speeds.)
