Need to run Meshnet as service for remote access pre-login (more info in post)

Hi, I am playing around with a homelab server (its just an old PC that runs my stuff), and the latest thing I did was enabling turning pc on after power AC loss, because its the work around I have to be able to remotely access it in case I am not home and the energy goes down and I cant in any way activate Wake on WAN or something like that (behind CGNAT).

So that problem is fixed, PC turns on and my remote desktop access of choice is open before login, I am able to remotely access it through my other main computer in the local network, all good.

Now.

I can’t access it through the Meshnet ip, it doesn’t run before login as my remote access app does, how do I go on about it, I ask thee gods of reddit.

Thanks in advance.

I will assume your device is Windows-based. Here’s my response to a similar question:

It is currently not possible to start Meshnet without logging in to Windows first.

The NordVPN app requires a Windows user to be logged in to enable certain features of the app, such as Meshnet. Unfortunately, there is no direct workaround to change this behavior.

The only other alternative would be to have a passwordless Windows user account that would automatically log in when the PC starts. However, such an approach isn’t recommended due to the security risks it may introduce.

Our development teams are considering improvements that would help in such cases. However, no estimates or concrete plans can be provided at this time.

What’s the best device to run this on so it is on all the time for mesh net routing? Is it possible to have it running on a Nexus player or fire stick, assuming it has the updated software to do so?

I was about to edit the post because I found 2 sources to try stuff out, one of them probably the similar question you mean, made a task scheduler action to open both nordvpn.exe and nordvpn-service.exe to open pre-login on startup but it didnt work haha.

Well I will use my remote access app of choice own relay to be able to connect to it.

Thanks for the answer as promptly as possible. And I would be happy to see that improvement in the future if possible.

Have a good day Adam

If this could be done in a secure way, I would like it also.

I have resorted to using my remote access app of choice own relay server. Wish I had it self-hosted but behind CGNAT and meshnet not working that way I cant think of a better way.

Would it be possible to leave meshnet running on a newer fire stick?
