My first time trying this evil onion browser and I get this … mind you I’m not tech savvy at all , PLEASE HELP
Bro the browser is set up and ready, start using it…
My favorite movie is Inception.
It seems the problem is that you don’t know how to use Tor? This screen means that Tor is ready to go- but tor isnt searchable in the same way ur used to. The hidden wiki is a good starting point.
Here’s an informative article with some links:
First, turn off that VPN. It doesn’t do anything except hide your Tor usage from your ISP, but the VPN acts as your ISP when connected. Unless you have done your research and trust the provider, turn it off.
Second, this doesn’t appear to be an official browser. Only use the official software provided by the Tor Project. Unless you have done your research.
Lastly, you’re connected. Type in an address and explore.
well the tor browser is basically like a regular browser except it’s real slow, entirely anonymized and encrypted (that’s why criminals uses it) and most importantly can access those sweet .onion addresses
What you may wanna do now is find the aforementioned onion addresses (you’re on the right subreddit for that) and start exploring
the onion network is a truly wonderful network filled with many tech enthusiasts, activists, scammers and people who are just trying to hide from authorities, a freer internet without big corporations and mostly safe from any form of government (with everything that it implies)
enjoy your exploration but stay prudent (I don’t think I have to warn you about all the shady stuff you might see on a network free of any authority) and if you wanna engage into some shady business yourself I heavily recommend that you find something safer than a smartphone to do that
so, what’s wrong with this picture?
Theres a lot of ways to keep yourself safe on tor and it can be a rather simple thing. Preference is preference, but here’s what i (might) do to stay safe:
First, use a dedicated device not linked to you. I found a nice laptop on marketplace for a good deal — be patient on that. Dont store information, files, etc on that device. Should be blank. Next, i downloaded Tails onto a flash drive. Tails is an entire operating system that runs on RAM, meaning once you power down there is no memory of the session. On newer laptops, you will have to modify startup settings to boot load from usb device. Tor browser is included in tails, as well as a pgp encryption program (should learn about pgp). Personally, i try to only use this laptop at coffee shops or over public wifi. If i am on my own wifi, i disconnect the power to every other device on my wifi (alexa, tv’s, other computers, phones, watches, etc). No need for vpn because your ISP can basically just see you are using tor browser, but not what you do on it. **tails does not remember preferences, change the browser settings to safest security every time!
Once you’re setup at that point, do some research on search engines—they’re much different than you’re used to and different ones serve different purposes.
Key things here: keep a clean hard drive, dont leave a path to other devices on your network, safest browser setting (disables scripts), coffee shop coffee shop coffee shop (coffee is friend, it’s a win-win), tails (i love tails, but it’s preference), and the easiest way i found to learn was just watching as many youtube videos as possible — never know what will come in handy and a basic understanding of how it works will relieve a lot of the “what now” stress.
Dont rush, you’ll get it. Cheers
If the OP does not know what that means, then they really don’t need to use it!!
Tor can be dangerous to someone with his skill level
Hidden wiki is gonna eat him alive!!!
.onion links are your links in tor. tor is an internet in the internet with access to the outer internet. there is nothing we can help you with though.
Mind you I’m not tech savvy at all
Overall, this means you probably shouldn’t be on Tor. If I were you, I’d commit to some research and answers to questions before you try digging in.
Tor isn’t inherently dangerous, but it is extremely difficult to navigate for new users. Long, impossible to remember URLs are a part of onion browsing.
And seeing that you’re using iOS (more specially, an App Store browser), you are not in a good setting to use Tor. You will not have the privacy you may seek, and it’ll take absolute ages to load even the most barren pages.
I got it literally how do I use it
agreeing with everyone else, if you’re not “tech savvy” you shouldn’t be using TOR. Especially if you can’t figure this out. maybe come back when you’re more “knowledgeable”, i dunno.
Pretty sure up shouldn’t be using a VPN with tor
Also, this just means it’s working
The answer has already been answered and links shared.
I would like to add that you are out of your depth here. You don’t need to be tech savvy but you at least need to understand what is happening and how privacy works. Not in the technical details but the obvious traps. As when you drive a car, you don’t need to understand the engineering but you have to know how to drive safely.
People mentioned the VPN can be a downgrade in security/privacy for example.
The fact that you don’t understand this screen means you don’t understand how DW, and more precisely Tor, is working to protect you.
Before doing anything and browsing anywhere I would advise to read the wiki and understand the obvious traps at least. Not being a sitting duck if you are really going to deep dive into DW.
Now for most of the basic things (explore, not buying, not looking for pedophile stuff), you should be fine with the basic security steps (having an official Tor browser, disable JavaScript) mentioned on the wiki.
By the way I please go a website call hiddenwiki.
My boy u really can’t figure out what this means😂? How u know to get a tor browser but not be able to piece together this much?
It means u just committed a felony and theyll be over to get u soon
Is there something specific you need help with?
Btw the tor project has an official Tor browser on the play store - use that.
Apart from that it’s literally like any other browser, except your browsing is private. onions are just another name for hidden services, essentially .com is replaced by .onion, but apart from that they’re just regular websites. Perhaps the hardest part is finding the onion addresses of sites you’re interested in.
Not hearing a question what is it you’re asking ?
If you’re thinking uhm so what do I do now ?
I’d say leave now this world isn’t for you you’re going to get scammed blind.
Look just stick to what you know best. The dark web, not for you.
