At first I thought it was a problem with my internet hardware but my phone is connected to my wifi and it works when my chromebooks goes offline. I don’t know what to do. Please help. The problem happens several times a day but it only lasts for a minute or 2.
I’m not gonna get my hopes up yet but I may have fixed this. I set my Chromebook to never sleep, just shut off the screen and so far it’s acting way better then it has in a long time. But it’s bad for power consumption I bet.
I know this is an old post but I have had this same Chromebook problem for months and I think I have it fixed! Go to Settings —> Network —> Wi-Fi —> Known networks. Delete ALL of your known networks and start over.
When I looked there I found older “versions” of my same Wi-Fi network from previous router resets. These were possibly causing conflicts of some kind. I now have one known network and currently no more connection issues.
Solution found! I have had this problem for a couple months now and it was driving me crazy. Dozens of devices have no problem but my Chromebook does and using Google home WiFi (you think they would make the connection rock solid). Remembering when I worked from home and the VPN never had a problem even when the rest of the network did, I decided to give VPN a try. My connection problems are gone!! I am using DuckDuckGo Pro VPN. It costs $10 a month but they don’t keep any of my data and you get a few other perks to boot.
I have the same problem constantly on my new chromebook, and on the older one I just replaced. On the older one it seemed to only happen every other update, so I could go weeks without getting disconnected, but on the new one it’s at least 10 times a day. I have to turn the wifi off and back on the chromebook to kick it to reconnect. Annoying.
Whats the manufacturer and device type?
It’s a common problem that is usually caused by your WiFi router configuration of other network problems - NOT the Chromebook.
See this thread for troubleshooting procedures and explanations of what might be happening.
Mine does too! Acer R11
Quickest potential fix: Forget the network on Chromebook and re-add it.
Next solution: Check when your router’s firmware was last updated, make sure you are on the latest.
I had a problem like this at some point. My WiFi router was set up to broadcast two networks using the same WiFi address (like “Networkname”), one for 2.4 and one for 5 GHz. Some hardware (like my chromebook) would reset every few minutes trying to connect via the 5 GHz network, some other hardware (like my phone) was just fine.
I now have the router setup to use a different name for these two networks, like “Networkname24” for 2.4 GHz and “Networkname5” for 5 GHz, and I only let my chromebook connect to the “Networkname24” one.

It’s a typo you tool.
It’s an Asus chromebook.
Love the whole “sure, every other computer, phone, tv, device, toaster, etc in your house works fine with wifi, except your chromebook – so obviously it’s the wifi”
Your link seams to be out of date. the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep option has been removed so I can’t do that.
Any other solutions? I’m having this issue with my school chromebook and I need to do schoolwork, the school blocked the settings app on the chromebook so I cant forget networks
I just tried this, I also did a powerwash and that didn’t help at all. I have no idea how to check my router’s firmware, but it’s brand new, like a month old.
…I have no idea what you said, sorry, maybe dumb it down for me?
I’m running into an issue with my Chromebook where my Chromebook internet keeps disconnecting. I probably had some software conflicts that might be causing it
Thanks. The settings are constantly changing.
