Meraki Auto VPN, Windows 10 User can’t access websites from IE

Edge nor IE will open websites, one drive won’t connect when VPN is enabled. However, Chrome, Firefox, Dropbox, etc… All work perfectly fine.

I removed Google DNS servers and IE/Edge and One Drive connected. But later, same issue. Windows 10 Pro.

Can you ping the domains you’re trying to reach?

(with an empty cache: ipconfig /flushdns … from a command prompt in Windows)

do they resolve as you’re hoping?

if yes, are there any proxy settings for IE etc?

if not can you get to http://www.letmecheck.it/mtu-test.php to check the MTU. screwed up MTU’s can make it look like you can’t reach websites - but actually you can - you just can’t transfer traffic from them properlya

Check proxy settings

Are you using the domain dns servers in the vpn? Can you ping these servers by IP?

I have ONE user with this exact issue. Started a month or two ago. Updated the machine to 1909 hoping that would fix it right before COVID-19 happened. Now with everyone working from home this user has to disconnect the VPN every time he needs to use one web app we have that only works in IE.

Did you ever find a cause for this? I’ve got a few users myself who are seeing the same issue.

Are you also using full tunnel?

Was all clear! Thanks for chiming in. I never received notifications and forgot about this post.

I had it disabled already. I generally do that. Thanks for chiming in. I never received notifications and forgot about this post.

I wasn’t using the Domain DNS servers, only Google. I was able to ping the servers…

I had an issue with this and it was related to blocking the web advertisements category on the MX.

Did you find a remedy?

Did you ever find a remedy?

I’m trying to go back into my notes and locate my remedy and I’ll share.

yes - and have followed the instructions here EXACTLY

https://documentation.meraki.com/MX/Client_VPN/Client_VPN_OS_Configuration

and things work for me.

but are you sure you’re not caching DNS results and tha you can actually reach your DNS servers?

Interesting… I’ll check that, thanks!

Yes and no, upgrading to the new Edge fixed it but never could resolve it for the old version. Went through every possible solution I could find except reinstalling/repairing Windows 10.

Haha, I no longer have the case so I assume I must have but it has been a while. Thanks for following up!
