Mcafee says my information is on the dark web. Is it real, is all this stuff actually out there?

Mcafee says my information is on the dark web. Is it real, is all this stuff actually out there?

Mcafee is the real security risk.

McAfee is awful, but chances are some of your info is indeed on the dark web. That’s true for most people.

McAfee says a lot of shit to get you to pay up.

A lot of these applications compare your usernames, shared passwords against credential dumps.

Essentially, it’s just giant lists of usernames and passwords and potentially other private info.

It’s the same way https://haveibeenpwned.com/ operates. But just checking your email against data leaks.

McAfee is shit, Windows Defender is good enough these days. Get MBAM if you want a second opinion on something dodgy,

Change your passwords, sometimes even helps to get a new email. My hotmail from 15 years ago is so far gone with spam and garbage now. New email is squeaky clean 5 years going.

McAfee is terrible, don’t trust it and remove it.
Even Windows Security is better.

Yeah, McAfee is the one putting it out there

Why do you even have McAfee? Uninstall it.

McAfee are like the drug dealer who tells you the cops have your details and when you ask who gave them to them they ask for “Money For Information”.

I’d go as far as saying unless you put your credit card details in the app there’s no way for them to make the claim that your credit card details are on the dark web.

Your passwords probably are out there so just change the password on any site that uses the same password as any other compromised site.

Oh and you can check if any of your passwords or other details were stolen by using a site like Have I been Pwned https://haveibeenpwned.com/ so you don’t have to pay McAfee.

You mean the program with the free trial you’re always offered whenever you install anything? Remove.

All of our information is on the dark web. So, yes, McAfee is correct. Your information is on the dark web.

Only if McCRAPPY puts it there.

They probably do. McAfee probably also didn’t scan anything and just made a random number claim. They also can’t do a fucking thing about it if they even did a scan and know where your info is. No one can take down that info except for the person that posted it or the site host. They’re on the dark web and likely won’t give a damn about you wanting your info taken down.

Get rid of McAfee though, anything else is better, even built in windows AV is better than McAfee.

McAfee probably sold your info then is trying to scare you into buying their protection against it.

And yes, probably assume some of your info is generally already out there. Just try to be cautious where you go and what you do on the net

Would I ever use or trust mcafee? No, please uninstall it and never use it again. But…. That actually could easily be real. Put your email into this site first to see what it shows for that → https://haveibeenpwned.com/ . Then, I personally utilize my Google One subscription to see if I’ve had anything further put out there. They’re really good at what they do when it comes to telling you this stuff. I’d imagine what McAfee is telling you is real and I’d follow what it shows to see what they found but don’t give them ANY further money or information and when it’s all sorted out immediately uninstall it please and follow r/antivirus’ antivirus suggestions for replacements if you don’t want to use windows defender.

McAfee is a virus, uninstall it. Be warned that it is usually made up of about 20 different programs which each take forever to uninstall.

Now to answer your question, your information is probably on the dark web, but this is true for everyone who has ever used the internet. Depending on WHAT the information is, it could be meaningful, or it could be meaningless.

probably not. MCafee is shit. use a real antivirus software like malwarebytes.

I use Googles dark web advisor and it frequently tells me my info is on the dark web. My email address, old passwords I havent used in 20 years which were exposed in data breaches, scraped information from public profiles from Twitter, LinkedIn etc. Its nigh-on impossible to have a presence on the web without having this information leaked. Dont worry too much about it - don’t overshare on social media sites (set accounts to private where possible), use a password manager to generate complex passwords, use unique passwords on each account and setup 2 factor authentication where available. Oh and get rid of McAfee.

McAfee is a money grubbing scam, but we all know that. It’s been that way for ages. Yes. All your information is out there. If you have to ask. It’s out there.
