I’m currently in a trial period with Nord and find myself wanting to setup a vpn router, using the wireguard protocol, instead of putting clients on everything. Nord does not make this easy at all since they do not provide the private / public key and wireguard info needed. I know there’s ways using github tools but I’d rather go with a provider that offers official support for this. It appears that SS offers support for configuring a WG vpn on devices manually; it appears the keys needed and any endpoint node information is in the portal and easy to access. I’m wanting to configure my openwrt or ddwrt router so use wireguard ,not openvpn, and according to the SS vpn router docs it looks like this is supported.
Can anybody doing this please confirm the public / private keys and anything else needed is available in the portal. And, how much if a PITA was this do accomplish on SS?
If this is indeed possible, what have your experiences been for streaming tv and general surfing, email, FB, twitter etc?
Also, any other vpn providers you using a wireguard tunnel on via your router .manually configured please put notate and describe your experience.
Hi there, thank you for the question. Yes, Surfshark does support manual configuration for WireGuard on routers like OpenWRT or DD-WRT.

When your router supports Wireguard, it’s kind of a breeze to setup with SS. In some instances (depending on the router) you may need some manual intervention, but all that is required is extractable from the profile file(s)). You can also create multiple key sets if necessary. You can easily manage all from within the accountpage, also manuals.

I keep multiple VPN profiles to select from, in case a dedicated service needs a specific country or faster server, for all others, like social media, mail and etc., it works as expected.
Thanks. Is support 24/7? Do you guys have “tier 2” support around the clock?
I’ll dig into the links. Do you know if you guys have any bash scripts that monitor the connection and reconnect and connect to the best servers automatically?
Thanks.
Which router are you using?
I’m looking at getting this one which comes preloaded with a custom version of openwrt.

Can you provide more details on the multiple profiles, do you have multiple profiles in your router and choose which one? I assume you login to the interface and just switch easy peezy to a filled out and ready to go pre defined profile.
I wonder if a bash script could monitor and choose the best server automagically?
That’s correct, our customer support team can be reached 24/7.
I used a WRT Asus router (AX-88), but almost all good brands support it, just make sure you have decent RAM/CPU). Currently I’m running an Opnsense box. Yes, you can store multiple profiles in the router and accessible via the interface. Re. scripts, didn’t look into that for the Asus router, as I configured the Opnsense box to assign VLAN’s to specific Wguard profiles and NIC’s.
