Making Dashlane VPN work on Linux

Hi! I just switched to Dashlane and seeing that it comes with a VPN, I’d also like to be able to set it up on my main PC, which runs Linux.

From my current understanding Dashlane’s VPN uses Hotspot Shield, which in turn uses OpenVPN. (From https://support.dashlane.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000037900-VPN-Frequently-Asked-Questions#title1-4)

Hotspot Shield has a Linux command line client: https://support.hotspotshield.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039016812-Is-Hotspot-Shield-supported-on-Linux-, and what’s more important, it has the ability to generate .ovpn configuration files (shown here for example: https://support.hotspotshield.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037248872-How-do-I-install-Hotspot-Shield-on-my-FreshTomato-router-).

This in turn means, that given a Hotspot Shield account I can get it working on any OpenVPN client. Is it possible to get the server address and login credentials for an OpenVPN server from within Dashlane?

This would be awesome !

I tried that too, they won’t give you the credentials. Unfortunately your best bet is to wait for an official app for linux.

I did some digging and the credentials change each time you connect, so I guess that won’t work.

That’s unfortunate. You can submit a feature request here: https://portal.productboard.com/dashlane/1-dashlane-portal/tabs/2-under-consideration
