Issues installing OpenVPN (2.6.7) on end user laptop

Install OpenVPN Connect (from OpenVPN’s website).

Then in pfsense (assuming you have the openvpn-client-export package installed), you can go to:

VPN > OpenVPN > Client Export tab > and select the Viscosity Inline Config button to download the ovpn profile file you’ll import into OpenVPN Connect.

Might want to check the installer GPG signature and see if it matches. You may have corrupted installer file.

That green frame is from Xcitium Containment feature, are you using it?

Having a rough time getting OpenVPN installed on an end users computer. I am following the same process I have always by going to VPN > OpenVPN > Client Export and then selecting the 64bit “Current Windows Installer”.

I even created a new user account/vpn profile for the end user but still am running into the same issue. Any help or input here would be appreciated!

I found that using the iOS/android profiles worked best. Also remember to change between tun and tap as necessary.

I always use the clien from openvpn.net and just import inline configuration, never have an issue.

You are my hero! That worked! I initially downloaded the config file under “Bundled Configurations” but OpenVPN was throwing an error of “This profile requires additional files for successful import. Please place all required files in the same folder”.

It wasn’t until I did what you recommendation of grabbing the Viscosity Inline Config file under “Viscosity” that it worked.

Please PM me your Zelle, CashApp or Venmo account so I can send you some money as a thank you!

I was going to ask that. Looks like it.

OP, if that’s the case then it will only install it memory so it appears to work but does not.
You will have to either whitelist the app in the back end or disable it on the workstation.

Are you referring to the "OpenVPN Connect (iOS/Android) option listed under “Inline Configurations”?

Glad I could help!

You’re very kind. No need to pay me. Just send a couple of bucks to a good cause for me instead.

Yes we are using ITarian and I actually have a support case opened with them now in case that was the culprit. Even after allowing the executable in Xcitium Verdict Cloud, the issue continued to happen. I even disabled/exited XCT on the client machine, the issue continued to happen.

We used xcitium for years. Started with comodo that became Itarian then we got shuffled to Xcitium. So much crap and billing issues. People getting locked out because of bs billing issues. Just overall crappy service.

Left them last year and we are so happy with did. When we left we had 270 licenses for almost a full year that we left behind.

So many better platforms out there.

So I am a one-man shop here and ITarian is really all I know. I started using ITarian a few years ago when I got hired on with this company as they didn’t have any type of RMM/EPP, back when ITarian was free for 50 devices or less. If you don’t mind, would you share which platform you are using now or would recommend?
