Is UltraAV even a real antivirus?

I never had any luck with any other PC protection other than Kaspersky. Norton sucks, bitdefender sucks, McAfee sucks. I’ll give this ultra AV a try because in the end I’d say it’s going to end up being Kaspersky relabeled.

FYI, UltraAV charged me for a renewal of $79.99, thinking that I wanted to renew with them, they must have been given all of our accounts. I opened a case with Paypal, where my subscription payment originated, and they have given me the credit. Now how do I cancel this recurring annual renewal, I cannot find a contact email or phone number for UltraAV anywhere. Has anyone encountered the same issue?

I have been on PCs since my 486 and have been building my own PCs for decades. I was one of the many who dumped Kaspersky and added Ultra AV. So I followed the lead and, being that I distrust anything out of Russia, I deleted it. I went with Ultra AV after a full uninstall of Kaspersky, and on both my wife’s PC and mine, Ultra AV was a joke. Among other things, It interfered with downloading email on both Windows 10 and Windows11, as well as interfering with the booting on my WIn10 PC. Even though we had about a year left on the Kaspersky subscription which transferred to Ultra AV, we dropped Ultra and purchased a well-known program which has been around for a long time.

Interesting story about Kaspersky and these changes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07GHCoOX1K0

No, it’s based on the MaxSecure engine, which is abysmal. Just as many false positives as actual detection of malware, the latter of which is very poor. Kaspersky chased the sweet dollars that UltraAV offered them. Regardless of what you think of the government’s decision, Kaspersky is the culprit for UltraAV, and it partially validates the government.

I feel Kaspersky is thinking you Americans are on your own. I doubt Kaspersky will ever seek out the US market in the future so they’re not worried about reputation loss besides, their reputation has been trashed already in the US press. Any issues will be at the loss of the credit card company or you. Kaspersky got a quick payment from Ultra and bounced.

The details are likely in the EULA.

They were probably thinking they didn’t want to refund customers for the remainder of their subscriptions, so they looked for the least expensive substitute they could find. The quality of the product is of zero concern to them. It’s an antivirus product and they provided it. Now you can’t have your money back. They just wanted to get out without taking a huge financial loss (beyond the huge bloe of losing such a large market in the first place). It’s really too bad that Putin’s such a dirty douche-nozzle. I’ve used Kaspersky for years and never had a security issue. When my sub runs out, I’m going to be so sad. (They didn’t get me w/the Ultracrap update. I use a VPN.)

Seems like it’s brand new and not even fully implemented yet. And I get your sentiments on WebRoot. Our local Best Buy started promoting that when they ditched Kaspersky years ago. Not impressed by it.

Bitdefender is the best alternative.

You can use Microsoft Defender Antivirus. But it doesn’t have VPN.

You have to uninstall Kaspersky from the app. It’s a security thing that keeps viral software from uninstalling to worm it’s way through. You did it wrong…

The disc drives. They’re hidden folders. “!” and “~!~” are the names. Contains a bunch of random files of various types. Sketchy as hell.

Only, Kaspersky didn’t pull out by choice. Either way, it’s never the clowns in charge that suffer.

I paid for a sub which was up for renewal in August. Instead of charging me, Kaspersky extended the old subscription until the date upon which Kaspersky has to exit. I won’t be using the new AV as it has no history. I’ve used ESET and Bitdefender in the past. Bitdefender while highly rated always looked like a child’s toy to me. I went with ESET since I feel they have a more robust Password manager. I prefer Kaspersky since they have a separate app instead of only an extension, similar to Keepass, for managing credentials, but what choice do I have. ESET is expensive though so I can’t blame a person for choosing Bitdefender.

Some of the same things have just started happening to me. Have you fixed it yet or have any tips on how to get your laptop back? It’s super frustrating because I trusted Kaspersky and this happened out of nowhere. It has taken over my computer and my computer keeps crashing and I can barely do anything on it. It’s just fucking absurd.

I’m just pissed the shit was auto installed. Who the fuck do they think they are just autoloading shit on my machine?

I’m waiting till I can decide (ie afford) a replacement, so for now I’m using it as its all I have. But once I figure out where I’m going for my AV and VPN? I’ll get rid of it and anything kapersky still on my machines.

I’m just glad this is a relatively new machine and there is nothing important on it.

My sticky notes won’t work either

I realized Kaspersky may have been a Russian software so they banned it in the US which caused the change At that point, the US government decided to change it, therefore, I can’t sue the government so I guess those Indian mfers have all my personal information to sell now F you Ultra Av!

I disputed the charge online with my cc and was credited within 24 hrs

i got a chase fraud alert this morning for a 99.99 charge and they keep giving me the run around. Definitely feel like its a security breach scam and they want you to give your card information
