Is there any free secure VPN extension ? Currently using Touch VPN

I am a normal user and for some reason I am expected to use VPN sometimes, not looking for a paid one. Altough I started using Touch VPN extension today but not sure if it is safe. Is there any way to understand if a particular VPN is secure or not. Else looking for some recommendation
