Is the PIA anti virus any good? Ive tried looking for reviews and can’t find anything substantial one way or the other.
Just use Window’s built in AV.
You don’t need antivirus other than Windows Security (built in).
This tends to be the go to site for anti-virus reviews:
I just got it along with a VPN from them. I don’t really know how well it’s working versus not having it. Do you think that these companies may design their software to come up with alert about viruses or malware detected just to make it look like it’s working?
Best anti virus is common sense. Don’t click on sketch links.
I haven’t run an AV for 7 years on that basis alone and never been infected or cryptod.
Windows AV used to get flack but it’s actually decent now.
pia has an antivirus???
Yeah, Windows is already pretty solid. They may not always be the most up to date for zero day stuff but unless you feel like you’re a celebrity being deliberately targeted, that risk is pretty low. Combined with a little common sense in clicking links, downloading files, and having an adblocker I genuinely think even being cautious you could get away with no AV (don’t recommend it though). Almost all virus infections are the result of user error. AV software like Microsoft’s Defender tends to serve as a safety net and that’s enough for most.
Why is this downvoted? They do regular comparisons of AV software including performance impact as well as how up to date their virus / malware libraries are.
AV-Comparatives is the other site I frequently use but I’ve sometimes seen AV-Test referenced.
I think you just mean you have it run a third party AV in a long time
Yeah, why? Can’t help/tell some people
I doubt it; I haven’t run any antivirus in more than a decade, including Windows Defender, which I’ve disabled; I just use common sense on the Internet.
Then a couple times a year I install and run an antivirus just to confirm, and I’ve never come up with anything yet, other than a couple programs on my computer that are known false positives.
Because antiviruses are a scam. Windef works fine.
Windows defender didn’t block the ransom ware that bricked my moms computer. ESET has protected me from multiple viruses and harmful websites. Anti viruses are not a scam they are extremely helpful. Windows defender is a safety net. It’s good, but not great. Which mean it can fail at times and, like what happened to my mom, fail to detect a popular ransom ware. Can never be to safe.
Don’t click on links and windows defender will suffice
You’re not getting the point bro. Windows defender literally did absolutely nothing against the ransom ware and never detected it
