Ever since I started learning a little bit about technology, I’ve always wondered how the dark web looks like. I have always been afraid of going in the dark web because I don’t know what kind of trouble I could get my self into. I know it’s legal to go in the dark web, but illegal if you buy or interact with illigal stuff. Still, I don’t know if you can risk being hacked or someone stealing your personal information from your android device just by entering the dark web. I’m not sure if I should even trust Tor nor a VPN for that. I also have a computer but I don’t know what apps to use in order to make it private and safe.
Lol android isn’t even safe with normal internet let alone the dark web
I don’t know what do you expect to find whilst being on the so called dark-web but you have to realise that it is a bit more dangerous than the clear net.
You can use an Android device to fully explore the dark-web as long that the device is not connected to your name in any way and if the need arises you can dispose of it fast and securely.
You have websites dedicated to the traffic of drugs/ people/ guns.
You have websites that depict graphic scenes, extremely hard to imagine, that will scar you for a long time.
You have websites that depict Child Sexual Abuse, many of which are nothing than just Honey-pots. Enter them and depending for how long and how you interact with the web-site you may have someone from LEA knocking at your door.
In any case like someone already has mentioned, do some research, Android it is not the best solution to access it.
Use Tails it is probably the best OS to access the dark-net, but be advised that using it lets you ISP know that you are using it so you might stick out like a sore thumb.
Here this video about Tails might help :
Take care and stay safe!
Been using Tor for over a decade and still not sure if comments like these are satire or not. Maybe I just haven’t found the real “dark web” yet?
What a bunch of bs.
Onion sites are not more dangerous than clerweb sites. They use the exact same technology and the onion protocol is actually more secure than https. Being “hacked” is as likely as on any other clearweb site.
Nobody will care about someone briefly visiting a site and a misclick will not get anyone in trouble. Visiting a site that offers illegal services isn’t even illegal itself. Only committing an actual crime will get you in trouble.
it is a bit more dangerous than the clear net.
Completely wrong and could be argued that it’s actually safer.
You have websites dedicated to the traffic of drugs/ people/ guns. Youhave websites that depict graphic scenes, extremely hard to imagine, that will scar you for a long time.
- You have all of this on the normal internet too.
- About half of all onion services are legal, with Facebook being the largest site. You can legitimately ignore and never visit any crime sites.
Android it is not the best solution to access it.
There is no objectively best solution, not Android, not Windows, not Linux, not Tails, not 10 proxychains and 3 VMs. The best solution entirely depends on your threat model. If you just want to access onion services, using Android is perfectly fine. If you need a little more privacy, a generic Linux distro is fine. Need a live amnesic OS? Use Tails. For high security, use Qubes+Whonix.
Deep web just isn’t indexed by the big search engines and if what you refer to as “dark web” is illegal or otherwise disturbing content then you can find this both in the deep as well as on the clear net:
- Kid suicides on TikTok
- CP shared on Twitter
- Video chatting services are a mind fuck
- …
Malicious sites / content can be found anywhere
Who said onion sites are more dangerous?
The entirety of your comment.
Getting to a malicious site can get you in trouble.
That applies for any site and there is no difference if it is on the clearweb or the “deepweb”. The site also would need to exploit an unpatched vulnerability which is very unlikely or the user needs to enter sensitive data or run a downloaded file to actually get harmed.
Visiting a site that offers illegal service will be enough in some cases.
No, it won’t. There is no law that forbids looking at illegal offers. In order to get in legal trouble there needs to be an actual crime, just visiting a site without knowing it’s content isn’t. If you know a law that says otherwise feel free to share it.
What exactly is it that you think a “malicious site” can do to their visitors? Please be concrete and specific.
