Is it possible to utilize a VPN on just one device while running a pihole for other?

I have a rather specific question involving a few different parts, so I apologize if this isn’t necessarily the right place.

I currently have a box with bytesized, but would like to stop paying a monthly fee and just build a NAS/server at home to use for things like backups, de-googling, and (in full disclosure) some piracy. Mods, if this is skirting the rules, feel free to delete, I get it.

Obviously the number one rule of torrenting, and for privacy in general, is to have a VPN. Which I did until I set up my pihole. My question is, is it possible to set up the NAS to use the VPN connection while letting the rest of my network use the pihole? I’m not well versed in the networking world, just trying to learn.

This may be a question better posed on a NAS forum. You want to set a VPN up on that client only, which will not affect the rest of the network which will continue to use Pi-hole.

VPN:
If you have a router that can handle VPN (example: Asus ax11000 has ‘vpn fusion’ it can connect to 4 VPN servers and you can route any device on network to whichever one you want, or not using one)

DNS:
VPN clients, in some you can set your own custom DNS (which can then direct it to the pihole instead of the VPN’s dns)

The NAS may have its own VPN option built in, (again, Asus with the AsusTor line, allowing you to upload your openvpn cert and connect the nas to a vpn)

Yeah I was really torn on where to post it since there are a few different communities and moving parts involved. I’ll give it a post there as well.
