Is it ok to use VPN to buy Steam Deck?

Steam Deck is unavailable in my country so the only way of ordering it is either from resellers (who sell them expensive as hell) or by using a VPN and a shipment company, but as far as I know VPNs on Steam are against TOS. Has anyone else tried ordering it like that? Did you get banned for it?

A bit more clarification. The delivery is not a problem, there’s a lot of mail forwarding services, the thing I am questioning is if I can just make a VPN account (USA for example) and fill it up with gift cards, and buy the thing?

And making a new account? So, anyway, once you receive the SD you’ll register it with yours.

You’ll want to keep the other one in case of rma, but that’s it.

Your location and account would have to be in a supported country along with the payment method you use and the address you have the deck delivered to.

It’s all well and good faking your location to say the UK … but then you need to pay from a UK banking source and the deck has to be delivered to a UK address

You can fake your location to UK and then pay with a card issued in say Australia and have it delivered to Australia for example

It’s how most people locally get their Steam Deck. You should be fine if you remember to use your vpn on incognito mode. If Steam really senses you’re using vpn, they won’t allow you to proceed anyway.

It depends on the country I’d bet.

People have had orders cancelled, but there’s no Steam ban for it if they see you’re using a VPN and decide not to proceed with the sale.

So where would you let valve send your steam deck to then? If its not available in your country they wont send it to your country even if you ordered it from an ip of a supported country…

No, unless you can fake the postage address too
It’ll get cancelled

I’m in Australia and the Deck is not available here. Ordered mine with a VPN and used Shipito to look after the forwarding, should be here by the end of the week via DHL Express  AMA

well…it is pretty much…ok…if you want to give up your warrenty…
you need a US account and you need to find a transfer company for that since valve won’t ship a steamdeck to another country
i just ordered one in china.there is some kind of company that organize a warehouse in US to recieve all the goods that people bought and ship them to china.

The main point is not really about the location. There’s a lot of mailing sevices which help delivering from one country to another (And I already know one). The problem is about payment. Can I just make a new USA account, fill it up with Steam Gift Cards and pay for the thing?

Delivery services that do deliver from USA to my country

hey what did you use to pay? Steam gift cards?

How did this work? My account region is Australia, so VPN or not it doesn’t show as available. I was hoping to take advantage of the 10% and send it to a relative in the US.

not true at all, you don’t need an USA account, one of my relatives purchased my SD on my behalf, unfortunately one of the buttons came in faulty, contacted support and all from my Mexican account and all they required was the SD code at the back and a valid pick up address in the USA, once my relative returned to the usa along with the SD they picked up and gave a replacement, Quite an ordeal for sure, but doable even in unsupported countries.

To set a location you used to have to make at least one small purchase with the currency of that location.

I’m not sure if it will work with just steam cards … it might but if it doesn’t you will be stuck with an account full of money you cant use

Dont know what you mean after all valve has to choose to send it to your place first… and if that place isnt in a supported country they wont

You can use steam gift cards, I actually used the Visa card option on Zip Pay and then transferred the amount to pay it off. Made for a simple, zero cost solution

You’ll need to create a new steam account (Free) with the VPN on and in the US. Then order through that new account
