Family is moving to Nagoya soon. I have been thinking about getting a
VPN for both security and geo-unblocking. We just got both a fire stick and a roku to use while we’re there. I’m wondering if it slows things down too much (or if content is blocked) when trying to stream. We’d get a US based one. Thanks.
Netflix tends to block VPNs.
If you intend to torrent, it’s pretty much mandatory.
Not really, I torrent the shit outta the net, been 5 years and no problem
VPN with Roku is great. I have a UK one.
I have a VPN and I use it all the time to listen to Pandora and watch US Netflix. And, on the rare occasion that I want to download a movie or something, I might go through the VPN. Other than that, I don’t really use it much. But, it’s nice to have.
Netflix is cracking down on VPNs, so only certain servers still work on my VPN. But, as of right now, I can still watch US Netflix. Eventually, they may block all of the servers, and then I’ll have to find a different VPN.
I use it, I torrent, I watch netflix, I run my own vpn on azure and use PIA.
Major VPN services are going to have geo blocked content, you’ll need one which offers numerous dynamic non static IP’s or run your own on an VPS.
Searched the messages here for advice on how to stream the Super Bowl. sigh
Yeah it might slow things down, but some tweaks in the settings can make things better. But for that you have to have a rleiable VPN VPN service like purevpn, express or pia!
Just get an Android phone and a Chromecast. Bunch of good apps to watch TV and cast them.
Terrarium TV,
KoKotime,
Showbox,
Cinema Box,
Mobdro.
I have everything I need. VPN not needed if you stream.
I’d say it’s worthwhile anywhere, the problem is I can’t find a vpn without shitty speeds. My gigabit connection is usually dropped to well under 100 megabit when using a vpn.
You probably should use one, but you might be fine without it, depends on your provider. I use vpn4games, which is fine most of the time, but has been kinda shitty lately. If you plan on playing online games, definitely get a VPN which has a proxy in Japan, or the latency will be unbearable. Hope this helps~
Don’t know if this helps, but I use VPN here (US) to watch Japanese Hulu, Netflix etc. after I pick the show or movie, I switch back to my regular internet for streaming.
Buy a Rapberry pi, build open vpn, and configure a dns, then ask one friend if they can have the vpn in his home, and thats all.
Your own private vpn.
Just a note if you have the need to watch live-TV. Personally I use an Android TV box (Astro, EVpad or similar) which streams any/all tv channels digitally. No VPN needed.
You’ll probably get throttled if youre torrenting too much. That happened to me and VPN fixed that.
I ditched my VPN after Amazon blocked it and started using UnoTelly SmartDNS. Not having to login is a great plus. I’ve never had a problem since. I even used BBC iPlayer without any problems.
My speed almost went up 20x when I used a free trial VPN. I have never finished like 30 gigs in a few hours… I was extremely surprised.
Anybody knows a way how to download line sticker without being in Japan?
Completely useless, I mean - why would you get a VPN unless you lived in a dictatorship?
