IPVanish, stay away

IPVanish has great advertising. All the boxes are checked. Best I can tell, it is totally a farce. IPVanish’s forum is full of people complaining about the same exact things. Nobody can get a refund, nobody can get in touch with support, and it seems most can’t connect, or get a decent connection either.

They claim 24/7 365 Support. I’ve been trying at all different times of day for a week. I’ve submitted half a dozen tickets. Only automated responses. Don’t take my word for it, read their own forums.

Stay away. You’ve been warned.

**EDIT: OK, support replied, I did NOTHING, suddenly everything is working. They did something on their end. Now I have a dilemma. Because I never heard from them, I spent more money on re-upping my old VPN service, so now I have two, and spent double the money. That really pisses me off. But they may have me, and it upsets me that they may end up with a customer, but their VPN is fast, very fast. I was getting ~30Mbps, I am now getting ~75Mbps.

This is enough of a speed increase that I may stick with IPVanish despite their miserable support, and whatever technical issues they won’t admit to. We’ll see how this goes the next few weeks and perhaps I’ll come back and update again.

I have IPVanish and am currently using their servers. I have a great connection with them, better than with VyprVPN who boasts to be the fastest out there. I will admit that IPVanish support IS non existent. Took them almost a week to respond to an issue that I had by then figured out.

It really depends on what you need and how much you are willing to spend. Every company has its pros and cons. I’m contempt with IPVanish but if you’re new in the market save yourself some trouble and get PIA.

Thanks for the info. I was deciding between IPVanish and a certain second provider and this helps a lot.

I got them as part of my subscription to a usenet provider and I’ve not had too many issues either.

Since the OP I have stayed with IPVanish. I have to do a lot of server hopping, but I have a good system now. There are some weird hiccups now and then, but every VPN service I’ve used so far has had some kind of issue.

We’ve recently added to our support staff, so these issues should be resolved. If you ever have any issues, feel free to reach out to us directly here, and we’ll try to help take care of it.

They obviously have some kind of service, but it isn’t as advertised at all, not even a little bit. And no one can get a refund. There is no support. I can’t connect to any server anywhere in the world, can’t get support, can’t get my money back… nothing.

You’d be crazy to give them any money. Even in your case, I wouldn’t re-up with them when your deal runs out.

If you have any doubt at all, read the refund sub in their support forum. Basically, we all got ripped off.

PIA has without a doubt been the most pleasurable customer experience I’ve had with any product.

I assume you’re trying to use DD-WRT or something along those lines. Their apps works perfectly fine on all my devices.

They’re backed up right now. Support usually is very responsive. (source: I’ve been with them for over a year).

I don’t know who this PIA girl is but congratulations to you, good Sir.

No. I’m using their Windows app. Tried OpenVPN and PPTP.

I’m not alone, not even close. Even if the app worked perfectly, they will not answer their live chat, and they will not respond to any support tickets. They will not refund.

I have used several other VPN services, and currently I’m back to the one I had been using before I had been conned into IPVanish. Lesson learned. Expensive lesson, but learned nonetheless.

Edit: Yes, before installing IPVanish, I fully uninstalled previous VPN software. I’ve done this several times before, this is my first time having any trouble at all.

Private Internet access if your looking for a vpn lol

That’s really strange… I have both IPVanish and VyprVPN apps installed on my computer and IPVanish works perfectly fine. What’s the error it’s spitting out?

Thanks, but I have an annual subscription with them and it was supposed to be a joke because /r/VPN is not supposed to become /r/PIA. Bad joke, sorry.

In a thread where someone is complaining their VPN provider is not up to snuff I’m pretty sure recommendations for VPNs that actually work are allowed.

Haha alright well so I guess everything worked out in the end. On one hand you have miserable support but greqt speeds and on the other you have OK support and OK speeds. Like I said every company has its pros and cons. I’m glad you’ve managed to get everything up and running.

Speed is addictive. I still have connection issues with many servers but I’ve found a handful that give me great speed so I’ll stick with those.

I’m curious why UDP is so much faster than TCP.

…and come on IPVanish, if you have so many customers that you can’t help them all, hire a couple more support techs.

I saw this on their twitter a bit ago - https://twitter.com/IPVanish/status/537669656434458624 maybe it has something to do with why support has been lackluster.
